Neolithic Desk and Blackboard

Alternatively, the RimWorld dev would need to provide an XML interface for this part. I tried reporting this issue to the official, but the chances of it being fixed are very low, this problem has existed for a long time and still persists to this day.

I asked several of my modder friends, and they said that unless you completely rewrite all the desk related code like Vanilla Expanded Framework does, it's almost impossible to compatibility with it

I've been trying to figure out how to make mods customize desks recently, and I came across your mod. I also noticed that Vanilla Expanded Framework has added a new attribute related to learning speed. This causes the learning speed bonuses from other mods' blackboards to stop working on desks. You might want to test whether the learning speed bonus still takes effect when both the Vanilla Expanded Framework and your mod are enabled.

What do you mean?
姬酱 4 Aug @ 8:39pm
I found the reason, it's not compatible with VEF.
姬酱 4 Aug @ 8:09pm
seems some features don't work

@Holgast Add me as a friend sometime and we can talk more.
Holgast  [author] 12 Jul @ 5:07pm
that would be awesome!

@Holgast I'm relatively new to making mods using C#, but if you want I'd be willing to help maintain this mod going forward. I have an upcoming mod that has specific compatibility with this mod, so I have a vested interest in its existence. :3
Holgast  [author] 28 Jun @ 6:57pm
updated for current 1.5 and 1.6. I'm not a C# coder so I gotta get someone else to fix it after every update. if it ever stops working, please let me know

Is anyone else having an issue where the student goes to the desk to learn and just...waits? The teacher never shows up and the student eventually just gives up.

@Tinda, and anyone else who is bothered by how ridiculously oversized the blackboard is compared to its actual footprint, you can change it for yourself by opening the Buildings_Furniture.xml file in the mods folders and editing the line that reads "<drawSize>4</drawSize>". I changed it to "<drawSize>3,2</drawSize>" and feel that it looks much better.

You can also scale the icon for the architect menu by editing the line <uiIconScale>1</uiIconScale> if you want.

I started a playthrough with the VFE: Tribals mod and I was so worried that the babies born in the early game were not going to do so well as children. Thank you so very much for this mod! You've saved my colony's children.
Tinda 23 Apr, 2024 @ 9:10am
The texture of the blackboard is a bit big, it could easily be a 2x4 object. It looks weird when placed immediately next to things. Do you think you might make it slightly smaller, so it fits in its space? It even sticks out sort of through the wall behind it, as seen even in your thumbnail.
Please and thank you for a great mod.

Bad ass. My neolithics apprecite this a lot.
Holgast  [author] 9 Mar, 2024 @ 1:18am
making things out of chunks is pretty fucky, I think I might have included some files in here that allow it if certain other mods are installed
Frog Z. 8 Mar, 2024 @ 10:57pm
Idea: Make it so that things in this mod need stone chunks to make, instead of stone blocks.

I'm having the same problem and checked the mod version (at least I believe so) via looking through when my subscriptions were updated in the steam profile for workshop items Could it be a mod incompatability that's causing it? I wish I could give more information but idk where to look
Holgast  [author] 24 Jan, 2024 @ 1:13pm
could you check if your version of the mod has been updated? steam sometimes doesn't like to actually install updates. the functionality was fixed in the previous update per comments
Danroak 24 Jan, 2024 @ 10:21am
Doesn't seem to work. Same as Masterofgaming22's comment.
KAITA 22 Dec, 2023 @ 2:02pm
The idea is cool but these Flintstone-style textures looks bit funny
Frostiken 11 Nov, 2023 @ 9:25am
Oh! Didn't know that was how to do it. I'll give it a shot, thanks!

I did get a laugh the first time I saw it in the build menu where it's bursting out of the frame, hah!
Holgast  [author] 10 Nov, 2023 @ 3:05pm
understandable! feel free to edit the drawSize to your liking
Frostiken 10 Nov, 2023 @ 3:01pm
Good addition to the game, but honestly I think the blackboard sprite is really too oversized, it dominates screen space and blocks things behind it. Even with a pawn standing next to it it's monstrously huge.
Holgast  [author] 14 Sep, 2023 @ 3:15am
wahoo, the C+ guy got back to me with some fresh code, it should work now (tested it). thanks for reporting
Holgast  [author] 10 Sep, 2023 @ 4:12pm
probably some things, like the room name, are hardcoded to use the regular blackboard/desk
Masterofgaming22 10 Sep, 2023 @ 3:09am
This mod doesn't seem to work. Put an adult and child in the same room with a neolithic desk and a normal desk, and they will always pick the normal desk. Remove the normal desk and they just wander. Also the room goes from being a classroom to being a normal room.
tyriael_soban 16 Aug, 2023 @ 4:20pm
oh, it's heavily modded - but i'm also curious if the child cant get lessons because it needs to actually have the ability to gain XP somewhere, because i also noticed this kid isn't 'following adults' to learn from them, yesterday i also had a temp kid who was old enough to start actually performing tasks other than just hauling and cleaning.
Holgast  [author] 16 Aug, 2023 @ 5:15am
it is code-wise a carbon copy of the blackboard but with a different graphic, so it should work the same unless something is hardcoded to only use the blackboard. are you using any mods for that or is it just regular biotech?
tyriael_soban 15 Aug, 2023 @ 7:23pm
I'm having issues getting the kid and colonists to use this, lessons is the main focus for a few days and i've even gone so far as to have the colonist in charge of childcare having literally no other work assigned via the work schedule.
DigiDragoon 22 Apr, 2023 @ 10:28am
This is awesome.
fitznorway 6 Apr, 2023 @ 1:31pm
Awesome, I'll put it in my next neolithic run. Thanks very much for the work!
Holgast  [author] 5 Apr, 2023 @ 11:58pm
also changed the stats a little, let me know if they should have even more hp/weight
Holgast  [author] 5 Apr, 2023 @ 11:56pm
All right, I had a reason for doing it that way (I don't like making dup versions of vanilla furniture) but I totally get the crit. Have changed it to add new buildings instead of replacing the existing ones
fitznorway 25 Mar, 2023 @ 2:00pm
Very cool mod, but just realized it replaces the original, rather than adds these. I'd love to see these as a separate set of items, so that I can use them in colonies that advance beyond the neolithic stage. Beautiful work.
Wsufyrjd 25 Mar, 2023 @ 3:13am
Agree with Moxi.
Was it not possible to just make a separate set of items instead of replacing vanilla items?
ParasiticSquid 23 Mar, 2023 @ 4:20am
Agree with moxie, was going to use this for a tribal playthrough where I work up to industrial but can't really do that when the normal blackboard is gone lol
Moxie 21 Mar, 2023 @ 7:11am
Was it not possible to just make a separate set of items instead of replacing vanilla items?
Rubus 20 Mar, 2023 @ 1:08pm
"Unga comes from the root word 'Ungus" meaning to..."
tanyfilina 20 Mar, 2023 @ 9:40am
So it replaces the vanilla things? Could you possibly do it as an addition?
Holgast  [author] 19 Mar, 2023 @ 11:43pm
yeah, I set the drawsize higher on the blackboard
Vexacuz 19 Mar, 2023 @ 9:31pm
I see there is some clipping going on in the screenshot
