They are off, because having them on would end up passively converting all your resources into parts that you don't necessarily want at all times. Just turn them on when you need them, I don't see the problem. That's how I do it in the campaign.

Yeah, this ship is absolutely borked. All the factories are permanently offline for no apparent reason. Seems like a glitch rather than a design flaw, but it doesn't work either way.

I use the same crew setup for every new ship I make, so that I have them all at my disposal, should I need them. There is no downside to doing this.

The game does have a bit of a missing feature when it comes to accurately copying the crew assignments. Will probably get fixed somewhere down the line.

Nice design. I did have the issue of having to write down all the crew groups and priorities in creative and manually recreate them in career which is a real pain.

I noticed you have Strict Energy Hauler, Munition Supplier, and Generalist as crew roles without any crew assigned, unless I'm doing something wrong. Your other crews take up all 70 members in 4 Crew groups.
