In general, it cannot die completely, because I set the maximum battery wear to 75%, and the number of charge cycles is somewhere around 15-20
Currently, the settings for the battery wear speed multiplier and the maximum battery wear percentage are planned in the Config file.
Per-planet or in-space option is a good idea, I think to make it dependent on the ambient temperature and add a dependency multiplier to the Config file.
I've only tested on the multiplayer server where I hosted, but I think the Torch server shouldn't have any issues either.

Can you give an idea of the config file option?
Can you do a per-planet or in-space option, to allow batteries exposed to an atmosphere to erode faster compared to the cold of space?
Lastly, have you tested it on a Torch or SE server for multiplayer?
