@John Halo I was not aware of that one, it's quite good.
I was going to overhaul this mod to use the new crafting system (Masonry, Blacksmith, etc.) and release the update when B42 was officially released, but it seems that mod already does just that and it does it quite well (ha).
I'll keep this mod just like this for the people that are still on B41, but unless I get very creative I'll mark it as deprecated once B42 is officially out.
All in all this mod was a weekend project of mine because I wanted this functionality in a server I had with my friends, then it became way more popular than I anticipated (thank you all for your votes and awards, I really appreciate you guys).

spent the last 4 hours trying to make a Buildable Well mod for build 42
after finally tracking down the code that actually fills the well...
all it is is a rain collector that creates fresh water rather than tainted water, has a high capacity, and is the SLOWEST accumulator of water from said rain of all the other options.
Barrel rain ratio is .25, box is .4 and the well is 0.1

what do you need to build this exactly?

it should require the use of stones and mortar to build, available items in game.. a lot of stones

@Blitz-N-Chipz And I've been doing it myself locally since B42 dropped and the changes needed were figured out. You're right, it takes only 10-15 minutes to do for most mods. But rather then whine and moan at a mod maker to do it, I just do it myself for the mods I want. So, that's my advice. If it's so important to you (not you specifically, the general you, referring to anyone whining and moaning), then do it yourself. But rememeber, while the initial fix is quick and easy, that doesn't included any testing or balance changes that might need to be done.

considering 90% of mods only need like 15-30 mins in file explorer and notepad++ to work on B42 its a pretty reasonable ask

i find the build 42 players so funny, they are like "make for 42" and pout when a mod gets discontinued lol
like they do this as a hobby not a job obviously dont pressure them

...please, please, keep this mod available for Build 41. Some of us prefer playing on a build that doesn't randomly erase your save when it updates.

I absolutely love this mod. The requirements for building a well are extensive but fair. It helps that the very back of my preferred base is technically in a forest, so I can build a well inside my compound.

Not being able to build near your settlement makes this a useless fucking mod

Isn't the new mod structure backwards compatible? AFAIK you leave the files for the b41 version of the mod where they have always been and put the b42 files in a subfolder named 42, so the same download works for both builds.

Yeah don't worry, I'll keep the b41 version available here for everyone playing the officially released version of the game. I'll check how other mods are handling the split playerbase, as I said I'm not up to speed with the state of zomboid.

rokh its still optional and with some of the issues i choose to stay on 41 couldnt u just update to 42 and make it as a seperate mode just copy code over,update what u have to and make it as a 42 build so us 41 ppl can keep using it?

Did it actually drop or its it still an optional beta? I didn't want to change the mod structure until B42 was officially released in case people are still playing on the latest officially released version, but that seems to be like 5 people and the majority of the playerbase seems to have switched to the B42 beta.
I'm not sure honestly, I haven't been keeping up with project zomboid stuff lately.

Unless you have look respawn active, there is no might about it. You have to explore new areas

also just realized you might need to explore new areas to get the magazine for it

For anyone having problems with finding stones just go on highway and look for cracks its almost 100% guaranteed find with foraging

Since there is the mod 'Building Menu [B41.78]', the possibility to build wells being included in it, this mod of building wells has become useless and incompatible with 'Building Menu'.

Hi, I'm trying to change the requirements for dedicated server use. I've changed the local req variables in the WellConstructionContext lua file, but the normal requirements are still showing on the server. Is there another place I need to make these changes for them to be in effect on the server?

I second the option for building a well. There are many rural towns with similar densities as some of the towns in game where wells are common place. At least a setting option would be nice.

Can you please make a version with no city/town restriction? Pretty please with sugar on top???
