I'd probably make the hats normal color more that of the team colored variants of engie's stock helmet

You managed to pick a hue of yellow that doesn't match anything else the Engineer is wearing at all. Perhaps if it was primarily the same orange as his glove, with yellow being saved only for the caution-stripe rim?
That would possibly make it clash less, at least...
