So.. which mod works better?

I'm doing an observer test of this and, while you can see the difference, it should me ramped up a little bit. You can see a lot of red and orange with this mod, but you still see things like Somalia or Thailand green as mint.

Yeah, not even this mod is enough. PDX has completely botched the whole aspect of technology in the last decade of development. The old system with Westernization was superior, even with its flaws, lack of dynamic development, and inherent unfairness: It was robust, and surefire to produce historically plausible trajectory, where the technological disparity slowly grew throughout the game.

As someone who loves grand campaigns and RP, I loathe how EU4 has been developed.

I will now roll another observer game, replacing this mod (and the African colonization mod) with a mod called "Reasonable Historical Direction", and see whether it produced better results. I also probably disable missions altogether due their railroading and stupid bonuses, but I remember it caused some issues with crashing.

I want to believe that one day, we will manage to have a historical EU4!

@sigge: The mod by itself works fine. Problem is PDX stacked 300% modifiers to institution spread through various missions, policies etc, and there's no way to manage that past 1600s. Game has inherently broken institution system that's essentially meaningless and while this mod still serves some purpose in the early game, late game it doesn't do nearly as much.

Mod appears to have stopped working. After playing Russia in 2 playthroughs Asia would always be at the exact same tech level as Europe no matter the year

can you make a mod that development cost much more for non european nation? i hate when i see a 35 dev province by a opm in africa

btw, the technology spread isn't enough during the 200 year strech where no institutions get added, and you can have countries with all the institutions when they really shouldn't

to remedy this, open the eu4 launcher, then select this mod and open the file location

you can go to common then triggered modifiers, then you can edit the embracement cost and institution spread for each tech group

You can change feudalism institution penalty for technology level 2 to 1000000%, so that countries in America can never improve their technology while tribes in Asia can because they start as level 3, historical.

I made my own version of this mod where the effects get stronger per 100 years but i cba to maintain it. You may want to try implementing that.

1690 in my game and everyone but china is upto date

Not that many truth be told. Capping works until 1650s and then it breaks down since institutions start spreading like wildfire. Most of the world will still be within 2-3 techs of current tech.

"*few* levels of tech behind western Europe" - how many, if we speak more precisely?
