I'd wait for the next huge patch to see all the new things with the crafting, and improve it at this moment : )
This is definitely a great idea, I don't see why you couldn't put any kind of amount in a ceramic pot to preserve them, even if the pot/jar is not full.
The problem is more because of the way the game allows you to make recipes. I'll dig a bit more to see if it is possible to create recipes that will allow you to put less of the needed ingredients to make a jar... but I fear it might be impossible.
That said !
It gave me an idea : I could make ceramic pots that would perfectly fit several cooking recipes ( stew, roast etc...), with the exact amount of ingredients needed to make a full meal.
I just need to figure out what would be the best way to avoid duplicating dozens of recipes.
Big ones old 50% more than the tiny ones. ie : 8 tomatoes becomes 12. 3 cabbage becomes 5 (rounded high).
This is something that might be balanced.
What you say is that you'd want to make a pot / jar with less than the required amount ?
