hm.. can't think why I need the laser. also there is no signage of what "dot" does...
Thanks for mapping.

Very clever and hard puzzle!

Didn't use the laser. I don't approve of the tiny hole in the wall as a puzzling mechanic, as I feel everything should be in clear view of the player. Its existence in the map is perhaps necessary and logical, but should not be hidden from the player (it's hard to notice). Good minimalist design; although I don't like the signage. The room before the exit was kind of pointless. Annnnnd, yeah.

Again, like I said, I didn't use the laser at all.

Ehhh I keep getting trapped screenshot

@johndaggett @Fawty.Two: Thanks for your review :), I made the hole really obvious.

@Risona: Thank you for your comment, I've removed the security camera just in case.
risona-kamo 16. juni 2014 kl. 6:57
Solved using the camera on the wall. Used it to jump on top of the door and reach the portable surface without a cube. Probably not intentional because I never found out what the laser did.
Got stuck when I threw the companion cube into deadly acid...

Thanks for creating and sharing!

Thanks @RED. I had solved one of the earlier versions that contained an exploit and was interested in seeing the solution to the latest version without any exploits. Like @Fawty.Two, I did not see the hole in the wall even though I was looking for any and all possibilities. Unlike @Fawty.Two I do not think the hidden hole is unfair... just deviously small and not readily visible. I don't think it's unfair because many of us have been playing Portal 2 user-generated maps for a long time and we've learned many advanced moves and tricks and it's hard for map makers to come up with more and more challenging puzzles without making tricky holes and such harder to see.

@Fawty.Two: I'm really sorry that you didn't like it. So far I've only had good feedback, but if more people complain about it, I will make it more obvious. You can try this version with a simpler design: http://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=269647792

I've just had to look up a walkthrough on youtube and I have to say that that sucks man. I was really impressed by this map until I saw this stupid little hidden shot behind the panel that's in no way indicated and soooooo easy to miss. Honestly, that's unfair against the player.
johndaggett 12. juni 2014 kl. 15:03
I have not yet solved what I think is the most recent version. Is there a video available of the most recent version?
RED  [ophavsmand] 11. juni 2014 kl. 21:30
@wildgoosespeeder: Yes I did, keep it up :)

@RED
Some people hate when I critique their maps. If you didn't read my profile (I think you did so just checking), please read it. Those people don't get my intentions.

You are very welcome!

@wildgoosespeeder Thanks a lot for your criticism and for making the workshop a better place :) Updated this map to the latest, "impossible" version as you suggested. The other one is now entitled [Former], and features the original design, only simpler, without the laser / laser catcher, and enhanced to prevent any workaround and the unintended death. Both puzzles are now different and worth playing again.

If you really want some extensive help how to use Hammer, ThinkingWithPortals.com has a great community that can help you out.

Here is a guide a friend of mine made that may help further:

I just know of some terminology when it comes to Hammer. The only way to get better with Hammer is to just use it and read suggestions by your playtesters. Some suggestions may be better for your puzzle and others may be terrible. The choice is yours how you want your final chamber to look and play.

As for the accidental killing that you find no big deal, it can really ruin the flow of your map if you don't fix cheap shots like this. The player should never want to blame the level designer for being killed. Being killed should be based on the player making a wrong move where they didn't think things through. My only suggestion is to make the portal surface higher and have a non-portal surface wall separate the player's hitbox far away enough from the laserfield's killbox.
RED  [ophavsmand] 11. juni 2014 kl. 15:58
@wildgoosespeeder Thanks for your review. The laser field or fizzler can be triggered if the portal is placed too low on the other side, it happened to me once as well, not really a big deal. You may be right about updating this entry instead of publishing a 2nd one, but people seem to really like this version, I guess because it's easier. So I just went with a 2nd version and I am thinking about removing the laser & laser catcher in this one to clear things up. Also, this is my first time using Hammer (w/ Resilience), which means it takes me a long time to do basic things (the logic part, for instance) and I still don't know how some entities really work (antlines, puddles or water leaks). If you want to improve this puzzle, feel free to do it! Do I need to add you as a contributor? Edit: Oops, I was on Lpfreaky90's profile, I thought you were using Hammer as well.
wildgoosespeeder 11. juni 2014 kl. 15:13
Now for weird Hammer issues. The laser field killed me in an unintended way when I was trying to make it back to the entrance side using my portals (the wall that has the light bridge and laser shine on it). You are using Hammer, which means you don't need to use symbols anymore because you are in control of the antlines. The intersection of the fizzler field and laser field is confusing and conflicting. Lpfreaky90 has an entity that is a "laser fizzler", that can be changed to behave like a fizzler, laser field, or both. Ask her about that:
http://www.gtm.steamproxy.vip/id/lpfreaky90

Overall, interesting chamber that needs some tweaks in Hammer. Hope I could help.

DISCLAIMER:
Read my profile before reading the rest of my comment!

I didn't need the laser because sacrifice cube and usage of cube flings but that was probably fixed in the updated version, which brings me to my next question. Why not overwrite this workshop entry without losing your numbers (visitors, subscribers, favorites, and ratings)? I can press the button through the fizzler field, even without fizzling my portal placements.

Nice puzzle. Excellent atmosphere. If I hadn't played Resilience first I would have struggled immensely. I seemed to walk right through this one though. Anyway, thank you for building such good maps. I enjoy playing yours. See ya round the workshop.

I did it! I played Resilience first that really helped a lot. Great tutorial for this map. I loved it, thank you.

I really loved this map! I was thinking way too hard.
Jade BGE 7. juni 2014 kl. 18:11
Ah my friends, I love you both. Sounds like Myke made it. Did you Myke?
stormsend I too am still trying.

Good map but we never need laser !

Headache is a good description. I'm getting nowhere fast. I'll keep trying though. Good puzzle.
