It still uses deprecated radars.
Reading the description made me think this was an ongoing community effort. It's abandonware.
will you be making a version that uses the new radars?
I'm glad! I hope you enjoy the STAG!
We are currently about 90% of the way through development of a large naval gun version of this. The way we reset it back to zero was using a PID controller. Please do note though, the STAG will always go back to zero rotations, so if you rotate the STAG twice clockwise, then it will rotate twice counterclockwise.
This current edition is made so you can replace the big bertha cannon and resize it as you please. One of our objectives with the development of the STAG is to create a collection that has different versions of the STAG where it carries different guns. This in the future will make it easier to apply it to your vehicles, and will mean there is less modification required.
Please refer to the 'USAGE' section in the description for a detailed and step-by-step guide on how to operate the STAG
I was wrong.
To do so, you must create a mission (assuming you would like to use the STAG on its own without attaching it to anything). To do so:
1) Click escape and select Addon Editor
2) Hit the plus button on the right side of the screen from the text that says "Mission Locations"
3) Select the tile in which you would like the STAG to be spawned in at
4) A thumbnail of the tile will have popped up in the lower left section of the screen. Click the right arrow titled "Edit Objects"
5) Select the STAG from the vehicles list
6) Place it wherever you please!
7) (Optional) I recommend selecting the STAG and pressing "Keep vehicle active" so it does not despawn if you go far away from it.
Let me know if this works!
Enjoy!
You don't have to ask twice!
Let me know how it goes!
The STAG stands for Self Targeting Artillery Gun, and as a buddy of mine also queried, no. It is meant to target areas automatically (by calculating for the angle to have the best trajectory, etc.) not target itself. LOL
We're really glad you like it! Is your version missing by not being accurate enough left/right or does it overshoot/undershoot?
Yes, we planned on leaving "Ballistics Computer" in the name until the STAG reaches a place on the workshop (i.e. the most popular page) where we no longer need tags to get attention from our intended audience. People looking for ballistics stuff is the kind of audience we were reaching out to. Though now that the STAG is on the most popular this week page, we will be removing some tags in the name and possibly adjust more of the name by tonight.
Something very similar yesterday using the same concept but ares would hit around a 50m - 200m away from target
Also only just saw this thing this morning
basically what i got from this is that for anti-air it's better to use a rotary cannon and just hope you hit, or to use a guided missile...
That's a wonderful idea! We've been trying to implement something similar for ships because mathematically they are much simpler to predict how to lead the round in front of them. The main reason why it is more complicated with air targets is due to the fact that the lead needs to be much greater which introduces a lot of uncertainty into the prediction. Because planes move fast and are in three dimensions it is very difficult to account for all of those factors when trying to find the right distance to lead at. We've been implementing a target acquisition radar to allow the STAG to lock on and fire upon vehicles in which the operator does not have the coordinates to.
On the other hand a stationary vehicle like a helicopter or VTOL can be considered a stationary object with a height elevation. So using a radar, that can be tracked and fired upon.
Thank you! Speaking on behalf of the whole team, we are very glad you like it!
@Koger
I do not think I am fully understanding. If you are suggesting using radar for targeting, that actually works extremely well! We actually had a previous version that uses radar but it was removed for sake of simplicity. There's another W.I.P idea we've had to make the readout of a target's location fed to the STAG via a drone that scouts out a set area.
