I believe it isn't. I've been wanting to rework this but I've been busy with other mods and stuff. If all goes well it will be updated within a week's time. I hope
kylenegaard 10. okt. 2022 kl. 20:11
Is this mod no longer functional? I am using it, but seeing no difference in my skills while holding it in my tool belt or hands?

Dead rising: deep in the tax

I've been fidgeting with talents for my next mod and I can tell you, they get stupid complicated at times... or stupid easy too! But, from what I could see is that items can't really give you the ability for better quality or such. For example, the quality system is strictly linked to the mechanical/engineering/other skill. But, I think that recipes can be added through consumables... Mhm I wonder...
Le Darko 9. dec. 2021 kl. 12:04
Hm. I have no idea if the talents are able to be modded, but your magazines could still be used.

If you *could* add more qualities (By that I mean the item qualities, i.e Basic, Good, Excelent, Masterwork), your magazines could still be worthwhile.

They could either increase the threshold of those qualities if you add more qualities, or completely change up how the system works. Sorta like "magazines for dummies" where if you read a... let's say a gunsmithing magazine, this will now let you craft higher quality weapons. It is kinda hard to talk through comments, so if you are open to more feedback or such, i'd be more than willing to have a chat on steam or even discord. But I hope you know what I am aiming at :p.

Very, though I'm actually kind of happy about it. The point of this mod was to try and help close the gap of newly hired crew with the veterans. They added this as a vanilla feature since the update, how could I be mad/sad that the game added something I though it was necessary? :steamhappy:
Le Darko 8. dec. 2021 kl. 23:41
Yeah the new addition of magazines into the base game had rather screwed up this mod, didn't it? :p
Yak'All  [ophavsmand] 8. dec. 2021 kl. 16:24
Ah my bad, last time I rebalanced I made it so you couldn't keep it in your hads. I might change the mags so they work more similarly to the books in-game. Nothing set yet
Lazer 8. dec. 2021 kl. 13:09
cant hold mags in hands for some reason
Yak'All  [ophavsmand] 22. nov. 2021 kl. 6:01
Not removed, just treated as a legendary (not spawned through subeditor)
Saya 22. nov. 2021 kl. 5:50
Is "Seafare Seawar" removed? Cant find it in submarine editor.

It's an interesting idea, but probably too far ahead from my original view. I do have some sort of setup for a different batch, but nothing really planned. For now the only unique that exist is going to be the #1 edition, while the others are just purchase-able. So far the "not carry them in the hand" approach has been sufficient with only the minor inconvenience of not being able to pick it up with a full inventory. So for now at least, I won't make a second batch with nerfed stats. But that's not to say your idea is not interesting, as it does sound like it has potential for maybe a future update (with some more though put into it ofc)
Le Darko 16. sep. 2021 kl. 6:50
What if you make a second batch?

The one that you currently have would be the "Very rare ones" that would be found ONLY in wrecks, and the "Nerfed" ones would be the ones that could be bought at outposts. This way, if you want to train your crew, you can do so to hit the a little bit BELOW the MINIMUM requirement for repairing Junctions or Pumps.

And the rare ones could work like the unique weapons that vanilla barotrauma has. Their icon could have a star on them to indicate they are special and super rare. This will at least reward exploring places instead of rushing into the outposts.

Oh and I forgot to say, thank you everyone very much for the feedback, it helps me adjust the mod to fit the game's balance that I might not consider by myself :captainsmooth:
Yak'All  [ophavsmand] 15. sep. 2021 kl. 11:46
Well, the skills get levels even if you are above the skill requirement for fixing, but I do see what you are saying. Also, removing them from the store defeats the purpose of being able to train your crew swiftly, as the drop will be randomized. I want to reduce that gap between wasting too many bandages and being able to learn new skills (specially for assistants/medics).
I've been thinking about the stacking thing over the weekend and reached the conclusion on removing the ability to grab the magazines by hand.
I want the magazines to be an asset for new crew members or inexperienced on other areas, but as it is being used as a main item (from what I could tell), I will see to the over stacking issue. As for this next update you won't be able to grab it by hand; if it feels wrong or not good enough I'll keep experimenting until I hit the sweet spot. I will also adjust the skill values of the magazines
Le Darko 15. sep. 2021 kl. 10:34
> Over-stacking is not always good tho, the experience received is based on your total level (base + modifiers), so if you use two electrical magazines to boost your skill to over 60, you'll receive very little experience. Having three sailor magazines and then using that to sail will mean you will never skill up helm

Yes but there is NO REASON to level them up because you just have the magazines. Sure you are sacrificing inventory space but that doesn't matter in the slightest.

"Oh, I put the magazines in the room/in a crate, just pick them up and repair and then drop them".

These things shouldn't be able to be bought but rather looted from wreckages. Since they are supposed to be rare (lore wise), they should be placed in some sorta special container inside of the wrecks.

Right now the mod is busted.
Yak'All  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2021 kl. 10:00
Over-stacking is not always good tho, the experience received is based on your total level (base + modifiers), so if you use two electrical magazines to boost your skill to over 60, you'll receive very little experience. Having three sailor magazines and then using that to sail will mean you will never skill up helm (the easiest skill to level up) and when an emergency arrives you'll have less slots for items, no belt, and no skills to use.

But if any abuse was to arise I'll see if a patch is in order, for now, I don't think it's very abuse-able
Seanie 9. sep. 2021 kl. 9:53
sounds good, just imo, if the price is too low people will find a way to take total advantage and just stack them on themselves lol
Yak'All  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2021 kl. 9:27
I adjusted the values to be 300sh in Cities (should be 330sh in small outposts). While the rare magazine should sell for 950 in cities. Do tell me if it's still to low
Yak'All  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2021 kl. 9:09
Very well, I'll increase the magazines price, I though most people wouldn't use it if it was high since the toolbet is pretty cheap, but I was totally wrong lmao. Since most people say it should be around 300sh I'll aim for that (oh, and ofc the 'limited edition' will be twice as much)
Likvid 9. sep. 2021 kl. 9:03
I like the idea implemented in this mod. I think it's even worth adding to the game. All the same, the price of magazines should be increased 4-7 times, 75 marks is very cheap.
Seanie 9. sep. 2021 kl. 8:30
personally, i think about 200-300 marks for the normal ones would be fine, and 500-600 for the limited edition
Yak'All  [ophavsmand] 9. sep. 2021 kl. 7:11
Thanks :captainsmooth:!
As for the price, mmmh idk, 750 marks is probably too much. A toolbelt (which is basically what you are giving up when you pick up a magazine) is only 35 mks. Giving the fact you must equip it on one of the hands (negating any medium/big arms) or your belt (which is +6 inventory slots for only 35mks), anything over 125 would probably make it not worth the buy. It's supposed to help lower level crew to catch up/give a boost to assistant players at the end of the day. I can increase the price outpost to sell it by around 30% maybe, and see how that plays out
Ronis 9. sep. 2021 kl. 6:53
rellay nice. but i agree with @Samanou, should cost 750Marks at leats? :) either way, Great work, thank you very much!
Samanou 9. sep. 2021 kl. 6:50
Love this mod! But I think the magazines should cost more money
Seanie 9. sep. 2021 kl. 5:16
nice, it's a killer when you lose your good mechanic midway through a campaign run, might help for making the assistant more useful than just cleanup too
