Doesn't work because Starving critters can Never reproduce.

Mod still works, takes several attempts to make them drop wild eggs but after ~Radiant Shine bugs I have a wild one.

when criter starving, e.g. calories = 0, reproduction = 0, it mean starving critter can not lay egg.
Varrgas 2.0 29 May, 2023 @ 9:02pm
very cool idea, I would prefer a version who affect critters and not the egg but like the author said, it's far more functional like this.

A good idea would be a new machine, with just a color swap of the incubator, to return the egg to wild, this way it will not be a 100% free process and require at least some energy, heat, etc.

But it still nice to have what we have here, Thank for this Mod Dr Feel Good :cozybethesda:

Thank you! This should be a vanilla feature. I've always thought that critters in the wild should become untamed after a while like IRL! :D

Thanks for this feature, it's really useful!

@sushi, do you have a copy-paste or screenshot of the error message? If you removed the mod, and it still crashes, it's probably not the mod (may be different one, though)

@DoctorFeelsGoodMD
It kept giving errors so i removed the mod, after that it kept giving errors and doesnt allow me to play the game anymore

@sushi, what happened with the mod? It works fine for me.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS MOD! it broke my whole game

this is perfect for my critter pit

Would it be possible to instead tie the trigger for how long and when it triggers to the Glum debuff instead? (or as well?) A full pen of critters that never get groomed loosing their taming kinda makes sense. With the starvation debuff instead, its a lot easier for them to starve to death.

If you are planning to get some wild eggs with this mod, check this out:
You need to know this info for your critter:
Reproduction change (happy and no debuffs)
Calory change (Happy and no debuffs)
How many calories can they store.

Then do some math:

[(Current_Calories / Calories_Change_per_Cycle) * Reproduction_Change_per_Cycle] + Current_Reproduction

You need to keep your critters in a ranch with food access until that number reaches between 91 and 99.
Then you need to move the critter to a ranch without food source. Move it back after he laid the wild egg.

Ye, i've being trying relocating them, seems much more easier... trying to find out know how much Reproduction % critters must have before getting them out
DoctorFeelGoodMD  [author] 24 Nov, 2021 @ 3:21am
For these critters you will have to restrict their food in some way, so remove plants or atmosphere. Even one little bite will remove the 'starving' status and give them another ten days. Relocating or confining them may be easiest.

Any tips on how time it to get your critters to starve before they laid an egg? Specially on pufts (not sure if that is posible) and dreckos
ganie.wow 4 Sep, 2021 @ 6:42pm
I had an interesting thought... would it be an option to simply have domesticated animals keep their wildness meter, and have it increment 5% per day like it already does? Glum animals require routine grooming anyway, and that reduces tameness by 55% per cycle, this way a farm sufficiently ignored would eventually have the animals all revert back to wild forms.

While I can see the argument that some animals once domesticated loose some of their wilderness instincts, but given enough time, I imagine the process would eventually reverse to serve their needs to be self reliant.
ChainedDjinn 14 Aug, 2021 @ 9:04pm
@Shame While I do agree with that idea and it would make sense to a degree, there is also 'Domestication' which says otherwise. Dogs, cats and even certain farm animals have lost some of the more base instincts through selective breeding, which sets them apart from their 'wild' cousins.
Heck, I've heard theirs a experiment underway to domesticate foxes, or at least make them less hostile/timid toward humans... Not 100% sure what the end result is for, except SCIENCE!

THANK YOU SO FREAKING MUCH!IAMSOHAPPYRIGHTNOW!!!

I have been wanting a mod like this since around launch! When I found out that you couldn't release critters and have them return to the wild, it kinda restricted my gameplay; I'd wait till critters laid an egg before I'd wrangle for ranching.
Reason I started doing that is because something went buggy with one of my designs and all my hatches/pacu were left in a cabinet, turning into raw egg.
With this I can add some critters to my 'Nature Reserves' to make them a little more authentic.
Once again, THANK YOU!

Egg progress rate is unchanged. If your critters cannot lay eggs, it is probably because they are cramped or overcrowded. Even when starving egg rate will increase by the base percentage (which is lower than when they are "happy", but still usually enough for the 10 days they survive)
ganie.wow 12 Aug, 2021 @ 7:16pm
The only thing i'm confused about, is when a critter is starving while tamed, their reproduction drops to 0. So, unless the mod directly addresses that (and it's not mentioned in the description if it does) then they shouldn't ever lay an egg. (Pacu excluded.)

Did you make it so they can lay an egg if starving still?
Shame 12 Aug, 2021 @ 6:52am
To me it would make more sense if all of the eggs layed by critters were wild to begin with. This means every new replacement critter has to be tamed again. Doesn't make much sense for them to be tame the moment they hatch in my opinion. It could be an optional setting in mod screen.

Overall liking these mechanics. Not sure if this does much to prevent starvation ranching but it's a good change nevertheless.

I personally like the idea of un-taming stations where the dupes brush the critters backwards, brush their teeth with sugar, and spritz them with skunk spray.
