Understood, thanks for the rapid response
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 27. apr. 2024 kl. 5:34
I didn't test it, but apart from the incompatible version warning, it should work with v1.5.

I won't be updating this mod, as the other mod is basically a rewritten and enhanced version (settings, skill selection and bulk recipes) of this one.
Xeonzs 27. apr. 2024 kl. 5:21
Does this work with 1.5 though?
I prefer lightweight mods over more expansive mods, so small mods with a singular purpose.

Or are you saying you'll only update Stonecutting extended going forward?

You can just switch to Stonecutting Extended ( https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2571676542 ), which is basically the same mod with a few extra features. :)
waffri 13. apr. 2024 kl. 12:39
1.5 update plz...
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 16. dec. 2022 kl. 15:24
This mod is new to me, but from reading the description and looking at the screenshots you're probably right.
Fiur 16. dec. 2022 kl. 15:18
Ah... it was probably Tweask Galore.
Fiur 16. dec. 2022 kl. 15:16
Yeah I got myself the Extended one. I used this one for 1,5 year(s) now. Was a pleasure using it.
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 16. dec. 2022 kl. 14:58
This is weird. Apparently, it is trying to apply the XML-changes twice. I skimmed through your mod list, but didn't find a mod that looks like it would add the same definitions again.

Here are three different things I would suggest:

1. Place the Stonecutting mod as one of the first mods. This way, the other mod interfering should output the error messages, if there is any.

2. Perhaps the mod download is messed up. Try re-installing it by unsubscribing, waiting for half a minute and then re-subscribing to the mod.

3. Remove this mod and install the 'Stonecutting Extended' mod, which offers also various settings and bulk recipes.

Some red errors which I think come from here. XmL stuff
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 8. nov. 2022 kl. 19:03
If you switch to https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2571676542 you can also set the time it takes to create stone bricks.
Exquisite ExeCUTEtioner 8. nov. 2022 kl. 18:40
Thank fuck, I gotta have a pawn pumping out bricks full time and it bothers me they gain nothing from it but the bricks and my mountain home being (a little) cleaner.
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 4. nov. 2022 kl. 15:58
I have updated it to version 1.4, but I would still suggest to switch to Stonecutting Extended , as it adds a lot more to it.
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 3. nov. 2022 kl. 13:55
Can you post the problem with the multiplayer you're having in the Stonecutting Extended mod, please? This way I could fix it.

This is also probably a problem with the new MP version? Because I was playing a v1.3 MP sesssion a few months back with many mods (incl. Stonecutting Extended) without any problems.

But I will look into updating this mod over the weekend.
егор мерсер 3. nov. 2022 kl. 11:45
Dear author, please update this mod to version 1.4. I would be happy to use Stonecutting Extended, but it conflicts with the multiplayer mod and the game often crashes. I would be very grateful.
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 25. okt. 2022 kl. 0:48
You should only use Stonecutting Extended now. If you're encountering the problem again, please, let me know what exactly the problem is. Then I may be able to fix it.
Renix 25. okt. 2022 kl. 0:26
@Scherub,

I was replying to your previous post and mentioned both of your stone cutting mods, I believe there was enough context and what I was saying should of been clear enough, Sorry if it wasn't.

Yes I used both the mod that I am commenting on now, and Stonecutting Extended.

I do not remember the exact problem at this moment, there was not any error message, It was a matter of options showing up in various stations, either some stones from other mods were missing bulk options or other stations related to stone cutting were missing stones that were added by mods entirely.

I need to actually play to figure out what the problem was again.

All I remember at this point is having a problem that greatly concerned me, and that the fix to that problem was using both of your stone cutting mods (Skilled Stonecutting [1.3]) and Stone cutting Extended, at the same time.
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 25. okt. 2022 kl. 0:13
You have to be more specific, otherwise I won't be able to help you or solve this issue.

What means 'both mods'? This one and which is the other one?

What exactly is the problem you're encountering?

Is there any error message? If so, what is it saying?

Does using the Stonecutting Extended mod solve your problem?
Renix 24. okt. 2022 kl. 23:47
@Scherub

I actually needed to use both of your mods together in unison to get full functionality with various other mods including ones that add additional stone types. I forget exactly why, but I know I had a key problem that having both installed at once solved. I'm sure I'll run into whatever that problem was again if this one isn't being updated.

Would love to see a 1.4 update on this!
Pingas Pincher 9. aug. 2022 kl. 2:31
Hoke, my dude.
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 7. aug. 2022 kl. 4:55
I haven't looked into this mod for more than a year. Can you give its successor Stonecutting Extended a try? If this doesn't solve your problem, post your problem there, please.
Pingas Pincher 7. aug. 2022 kl. 4:08
Em, if we set to cut any stone block (forever), will the pawn get any exp?

What if multiple pawns cut stone? Do I have to keep resetting the bill? They aren't getting any exp atm...
Blu90 9. juli 2022 kl. 17:29
thank the lord dude, my colonists are currently ass at crafting despite the possibly millions of stone blocks ive had them craft
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 6. maj 2022 kl. 3:19
Fix it, thanks. :)
Goblin Godaky 5. maj 2022 kl. 19:28
minor error in description, second line link is Buk and not Bulk
Sarandis 23. mar. 2022 kl. 6:38
You can also think to combine the two skills together to make it function with form, like making an engraved artful looking gun or sword, that also serves its function while also being pleasing with form.

But I like to think colonists (who are trying to survive) making bricks is to serve its function to build bricks walls out of, to weather explosives, gunfire, and keep hostiles out better. You could also take the bricks and try to sculpt with em, or make a sculpture out of them, that would be artistic. But I see bricks as more a basic material to serve a a building function, whether it be utilitarian or artful.
Sarandis 23. mar. 2022 kl. 6:33
Might be to late for me to respond after all that time. Thinking a little too realistically for art. The way Rimworld defines its skills, is quite streamlined. To put simply, Art is "Form over Function" to be pleasing to the eye or mind, which is its primary function over all else. While Crafting is about "Function over Form" To make something that fits its specific utility purposes better, like bricks for building walls and other stonecraft.

Not saying that objects made with crafting can't be beautiful, like making bricks out of marble, or smoothing it out, or writing/putting art on armor/clothes. However these objects are used with a utility purpose, like strong walls to take more damage before breaking, or weather out longer. Or to insulate your body, and absorb damage. Statues, paintings, and sculptures hardly serve any utility purposes other than being pleasing the eye and the mind's eye, unless you like making secret rooms.
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 10. aug. 2021 kl. 16:29
I've uploaded the mentioned mod: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2571676542

It basically combines the 'Improved Stonecutting' and the 'Bulk Stonecutting' mod and gives additionally the ability to change the gained XP and the required work amount. You can also select whether you want to use 'Crafting' or ' Artistic' as required skill.

Perhaps you may want to give it a try and tell me whether you stumble across any problems?
Winged Wolf 9. aug. 2021 kl. 19:52
@Scherub Thanks for all your work, your passion for improving and working around issues is somewhat contagious!
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 9. aug. 2021 kl. 19:21
I've got it working. Now that I know how to do it, I just have to make use of all other settings. Once this is done (probably tomorrow), I'll upload the new mod.
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 9. aug. 2021 kl. 17:51
I think I may have an idea how to achieve this, but I'll need a bit more time to try it out.
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 9. aug. 2021 kl. 17:34
I've started writing a new mod combining this one and the bulk stonecutting. Additionally I've added various settings, unfortunately I wasn't able to make use of these, yet.

I skimmed through the Rimworld source, but wasn't able to find the right 'point of entry' for this use case. So I've asked on Discord, but for now no one was able to point me in the right direction. It was said that isn't possible.

Another idea would be to add a second working stat, that would rely on 'Art' instead of 'Crafting'. Unfortunately that would kinda duplicate all stonecutting bills, one for art, one for crafting, so I don't think that's a good solution.
NamelessWill 8. aug. 2021 kl. 11:19
Was really happy to find this mod. Thanks!
And, to the highly cultured individuals who are arguing about the definition of "art" on a video game's mod comment section... hilarious dumpster fires like this are the reason I love the internet. Keep it up, winners.
Molay 8. aug. 2021 kl. 9:01
If the mod author were so inclined, having a toggle in the mod options, to toggle between crafting or art skill, would of course be the optimal solution. Don't think there's any mod settings yet though, so maybe too much work for the author to include if he has to look up how to do that, and may not even be playing the game anymore himself anyway. We can't expect him to add a change at any rate. Forking and crediting seems like a good middleroad, if someone wants that to be a thing. (personally I don't care, I think crafting makes more sense)
Winged Wolf 7. aug. 2021 kl. 14:48
@MAD Yes, because we should never voice our opinions, recommendation and criticism. We should all stay quiet and if we ever want to change something, the *only* thing we can and should do is to make it by ourselves instead of asking the skilled people that actually know how to (and can easily) change things.
MAD 🆅🅰🅻🆅🅴 7. aug. 2021 kl. 9:28
@🐺 PrydZen 🌱

Dude if you're butthurt enough simply fork this mod and alter it to give art skill? Just give credit to the Creator of this 1.3 release aswell as the original creator.

Prydzen ᛋᛟ 7. aug. 2021 kl. 4:28
@Mr_Never bricks are mostly used to create "beautiful" objects. The only time its not is when you build a granite wall. Hence it should be art not crafting.
CtrlAltSilent 26. juli 2021 kl. 6:16
Is there a place in the load order this should go? It doesn't work for me but I also run the Bulk Stonecutting mod as well. Maybe it needs a patch?
The Blind One 26. juli 2021 kl. 4:26
Thank you btw for updating this as well as providing backwards integration.
The Blind One 26. juli 2021 kl. 4:24
Realistically bricks are just crafting.

Art production on the other hand should probably be dependent on both Art and Craft respectively for its outcome.

Craft without art will mean well made but bad looking art.
Art without craft would result in a good idea coming out badly made.
Craft with art is success.

Really just wish the craft skills were separated. Tailoring, Machining and Synthesizing should realistically be different skills entirely.
Winged Wolf 25. juli 2021 kl. 21:40
@Scherub I agree, the line between Art and Craft must be drawn somewhere and since there are things that are as close to Art than stonecutting (such as crafting weapons and apparel as you said) and are still considered Craft, then for the sake of consistence this mod should remain as it is.
Teiya, the Blue Dragon 23. juli 2021 kl. 17:46
I'm just glad this mod exists. Always thought that stonecutting not giving EXP was weird.
Canadian Healthcare 23. juli 2021 kl. 13:46
@PrydZen, I'm i bit of an artist myself and i can safely say stone cutting is more a craft then an art. Masonry can be an art form but when your not doing so in a way that's not meant to be expressive and just trying to create an object to serve a purpose its just craftsmanship. Craftsmanship is the method and art is the result as to say simply. All art requires craftsmanship in the medium being expressed, being fluent with a paint brush is craft while the thing being painted is the art. If your making bricks to just make bricks theres no art just process, pure craft. You certainly can make art when making bricks but unless each one is unique or a refinement of the one before its just process after that.

You make a drawing and its art. You create a exact copy in the same way, its just production then. Craft without art
Scherub  [ophavsmand] 23. juli 2021 kl. 7:20
@PrydZen: I do understand your point, but I would argue 'Crafting' is still more fitting. Of course, it takes a certain 'art' skill to create beautiful bricks, but you could say the same about crafting weapons or apparel.

Also it's probably not a good idea to change it from crafting to art, as most people are used to rely on crafting for it.
Conkwell 23. juli 2021 kl. 5:19
I understand the argument, but crafting still makes a lot more sense to me. The word "craft" itself includes some recognition for the art involved. But it's not full Van Gogh, Duchamp type art.
Prydzen ᛋᛟ 23. juli 2021 kl. 5:00
@Sarandis you must not have seen modern art first of all. And yes making bricks is an artform. Especially if you want beautiful marble bricks.
