I know it is somewhat difficult to connect it, but I will try to explain how I do it. First don't use align terrain in the castle.
Then, once placed, try to raise the ground to the ground level of the patio where the path is going to go. So, use the smaller pedestrian path. Sometimes it is better not to trace the path, but to click in intermediate places until you see the blue lines and join sections.
If you still don't get it, you can always place a magnet on an outer door with the Advance Person Magnet mod.

How do you make the connection to the two red dots? With foothpaths and invisible bridges i get really close to it, but it does not connect.
