I am planning on removing the re-textures and making each character hold a copy item, but haven't had the time yet. But it's planned

is there any way to keep the mod from re-adding the item textures when it updates? alternatively is there anyway the standalone version could not have them

This could be because of a bug in the game related to runs being started and character numbers. I recommend to anyone downloading mods to download "Save File Crash Fix" on this workshop before downloading more mods.

I'd assume it's either a mod compatilibility error or game cache/version. Are you using AB+ or Repentance? And try using steam's "Verify cache" feature

@diamond the piplup Just go into the mod's files (Binding of Isaac rebirth/mods/undertale_characters2489861021) and inside it, there is a \resources-dlc3\gfx\items\collectibles folder. Just delete the item visuals in there.
If you want to revert names, you can go into \resources-dlc3\ and delete items.xml too

@The abandoned Hm, the API seems to have a bug currently that makes it so XML mods can cause glitches.
Here's what to do if the game crashes on startup.
Step 1: Navigate into \Documents\my games\Binding of Isaac Repentance
Step 2: Open options.ini and find and make EnableMods=0

To break it down to its smallest parts its this mod plus https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2503576362 separate neither cause an issue. No worries I will report this to that dev as well.

Mettaton's initial item is wrong,the initial item number shown in the file is 224 (Tech.5), but it is actually item number 432(Glitter Bombs).
