I discovered the cause of the bug that won't close.
Sometimes the RShift key gets stuck.
Just press the Rshift key and it returns to normal and you can close it again.
Pressing Lshift won't help; it must be Rshift.
Are you sure you aren't pressing 'Shift + R' when trying to close the menu?
Because in that case it is doing just what you described, which is a feature rather than a bug.
"bug when pressing R and then typing in search bar and clicking out of it. Pressing R again will focus the text bar instead of closing it"
Can you fix this bug ?
I pushed an update which should fix the bug of yours. It might have to do something with turning into monkey and having your client data partially resetted.
I did not test the update so please comment if it caused some other issues to appear.
Also, today I got a crash, picture below.

I was going on the monkey island as Winona, put catapults, killing monkeys, turning into Wonkey. I used this mod during it didn't crashed, and as I was walking towards the queen with bananas under my cursor, I press the keybind to bring up the mod's menu, and then the crash happened, the one seen on the picture. I don't know what caused it.

Being able to click someone out of the UI to close it, or even just an escape button, is needed!
The key I use to open and close the mod is "R"
Sometimes a bug happens that really gets in the way, when I press to close the mod it types instead of closing. No matter what I do or what I try it doesn't close it just types in the search box, the only way to fix it is to go into a cave or leave the server.

I did apply a rather simple fix to patch the issue which is following Klei's instructions and save the settings data in the 'unsafedata' folder located in the game folder. Unfortunately Klei did not add that folder by themselves and they prohibit mods from adding it on their own, preventing mods from making use of it if it's not in your game folder. And due to the security fix, mods are not allowed to save their settings anywhere else now except in that folder.
You can fix that (only) on your own by going to your DST data folder located in
Steam\steamapps\common\Don't Starve Together\data
and creating a folder called unsafedata in the data folder.
Its one of the most useful mods, i hope i get fix soon

A button to close it would be nice :)
There is a bug. When playing the island lottery (the one for pinball currency), I don't know what item it is. If I open it, there will be an error message
