No error message. Crashes upon selecting or making a save when booted with workshop, the modloader, or when installed manually. Tried with Intel integrated and NVIDIA graphics. Deleting just the Textures folder stopped the crashing but having a textures folder with nothing in it doesn't. Funky!

Hey, thanks for letting me know about the problem. If you have no unpacked/modded files inside your theendisnight folder and the mod still crashes, then I don't know what's causing this. Maybe using a fresh save file (if you aren't doing that) could help.

I'll be doing a small Remake update after the release of Shattered Spectrum, so that's when I'll be able to look deeper into this problem and maybe find out what's happening. Haven't encountered it myself.

Does the game crash with no error message at all? Sometimes TEiN tells you what caused a crash, other times it doesn't.

Hi NotWendy! Newbie TEiN player here. I'm having trouble with the mod-- its crashing on file select! Is this something you've seen before? Base game and your other mods boot just fine.

oh, you're right! thanks, but yeah I would change it so those two elements are not inside each other. I didn't recognize the floating skull thing (floast?)

btw, (aside from this maybe) outstanding job with this mod, I loved playing through it so far :)

The screen does work. There's a floast you can jump onto near the edge of the large agon. A bit hard to see. I'll look into adjusting the visuals on that screen.

After extracting the archive in your game's folder, do you launch the game using the "Play The End is Nigh" option? Because "Play With Mods" is only used for launching mods via the Workshop launcher.

how do I get achievments with this, I downloaded the archive, pressed browse local files on steam, extracted it there, but it doesnt work. :(

This was probably mentioned somewhere at some point, but is there any way to make it so the carts, specifically the glitched and grief ones, instantly reset the cart so I don't have to constantly open and close it while attempting the unbreakable achievements? It's just extremely tedious and a big reason why I haven't committed to getting Dead God.

Also, I have to mention that version 15.26 broke the tumor in SS Exodus 11. It's fixed now, in 15.27. If anyone's playing the non-Workshop version and downloads updates manually, this last one is important. For those who simply subscribed to the mod on the Workshop the update will be installed automatically, as always.
I also fixed another long-standing bug related to a collect_all console command, but that's whatever. Mostly a quality of life thing for other modders.

A couple of surprise updates have been released in the past two days. I reworked a few badly designed tumors, made other tiny quality of life changes to gameplay, fixed more bugs, and made background decorations in Retrograde and Arid Flats slightly more varied.

Good news, I've managed to find a couple more things worth fixing. Most notably, the animations of two descender NPCs in Arid Flats and Machine (thanks for the re-animated sprites, SurrealDude) and errors in the long story of the Wall of Sorrow ghost. The update is out.

This is a very fair point of view. There's a certain satisfaction in getting your achievements in the original version of the game, even if Remake's gameplay changes are relatively minor. I've earned my achievements way before making this mod.
The Remake does affect speedrunning quite a bit. Some skips are gone as a consequence of levels getting redesigned. Some cycles in other levels are actually faster. So the time it takes to complete the game using speedrun routes is roughly the same, but Remake runs would have to be their own category. Which is simply not worth it.
It's still FUN to speedrun the Remake, that part hasn't changed. But if you intend to compare your results to those of other players, better stick to the original version.

This looks sweet, but I fear it will affect the gameplay too much. I may try it after completing the main game. Even if this mod ends up objectively fairer and still as hard as the game, there’s a part of me who’ll always think “hey, you should get achievements as Edmund McSadistic intended”… So I’ll use it for my future runs.
By the way, how much does this affect speedrunning?

Released another small update earlier today. Mostly visual changes and a few insignificant bug fixes.
But I also completely reworked Remake-exclusive transition levels in the Machine. They should now be a lot more similar to the levels Edmund designed.

Released a small update. One bug fix related to a specific Arid Flats level and a bunch of decoration changes in Arid Flats' secrets. Some of those levels had too many plants in the background, compared to the main path.

Just released more significant visual changes to Flats and Gloom. Some of those were forgotten fixes, some are actually new. No gameplay changes.
I also updated the direct download link in the blog post for those who want to play the Remake and still earn Steam achievements. The blog now contains a link to the latest version of the mod.

Tested the rest of the game again. Found and fixed various visual issues in Arid Flats, Gloom, Blight, and Ruin. That should be all. Hopefully.

Turns out some of the Wall of Sorrow fixes got lost between updates at one point. I don't know which update broke the area again, but those fixes have now been reimplemented.
Pretty much all of those were decoration tweaks.
I will check other areas in case other important changes got lost the same way, but so far everything else looks fine to me.

Hey, it's me again. It's been a while. I played some TEiN recently and found a few more small things I wanted to change in the Remake.
The update is out. I redecorated some levels (5 of them), changed the Remake-exclusive Hollows NPC dialogue, and added an exit warp to the cart secret in Wall of Sorrow.

Literally the normal game but better, if you've yet to touch TEiN this is the best way to experience it. The author obviously cares about preserving the integrity of the original release while ironing out the kinks and has even gotten feedback from McMillen.

I have done the testing and added a new section to the mod's description, addressing the question about earning achievements. It's near the bottom, above the "Relevant links" section.
In short, yes, there is a way to get achievements with Remake installed.

I don't think Steam achievements can be earned if you install the mod from the Workshop, but I can provide a direct download with which achievements should work. I need a bit more time to test that, if you don't mind. Will let you know when I have a clear answer.

Updated some of the glitch carts. Let's say this was the last big update. The Remake is done. Don't forget to vote on it on this page. It helps.

Finished the Tower cartridge and all cutscene audio should be more clear now.
I also edited Pus-Man's intro card. Should look much better. And the water in Dead Racer is easier to see through.
I'll be making some more changes to glitch carts in the near future and then that's it, we're done with the Remake.
