Guys there's another submod for DEI that does exactly this that seems to be up to date.
It's called,
DEI Faction + Unit Names restored [English]

Hey, thanks for your comments! Unfortunately I haven't updated this mod for ages, since I don't actually play with Divide et Impera anymore and I haven't had much spare time, because I've started a new job.

However, if anyone wants the spreadsheets and an explanation of the method I used to make this mod, please say and I will be very happy to give them to you!

I know Menoros is now doing the DEI English names on the subforums but I hope you continue to update your steam version. I prefer this model, thanks for the work.

Oi! I like this thank you!

Thx for your effort!

Radious is - imo - too much arcade battle, like last man standing. At least they were the last time i checked the mod (around patch 8 or so). I like the DeI content and also the feeling that moral is important again.

Anyway, thx again!

Yeah I love Silven's mod, and I have gone back to it after he came back. He's done such a great job of rebalancing the game, without any content additions, but that means you can download that content (unit packs, TTT, etc.) separately if you want it, DeI forces you to have that stuff, even if you don't want it.

Yeah Radious wasn't that good, I don't understand why it is so popular, maybe because it was the first big overhaul.
Alex 15 Jun, 2014 @ 9:27am
No problem.

I should totally check out Silven's mod now that he's back. It was my go-to overhaul back when the game was around patch 5-ish, but then he went dark for months and I had to bail.

DeI's content additions are amazing but the battles are a fucking slog sometimes. Still better than Radious Mod though, but what isn't?

Thanks for the help Alex, I've now updated to DeI v0.9. I've done a quick bit of testing, but if there are any major issues let me know.

Note:
You may notice that some of the unit descriptions are very long, or may have typos in them. This is because I've left them as the original DeI descriptions which, frankly, have always been terrible. Previously I have gone through them, cleaned them and improved them, but I haven't done that this time. This is because it takes hours to do, and I don't actually use DeI any more, so I honestly cannot sum up the effort to do it, sorry. If you're wondering what mod I use instead, I use Silven's total improvement mod. Personally I think it is far superior to DeI, partly because it doesn't try to add so much new stuff to the game.

Check here, the DeI team released a sixth part on the Workshop, called the Update Pack, that takes the old 5 part mod into the 0.9 version.
MuppetMan  [author] 14 Jun, 2014 @ 9:20am
Hey can anyone help me out? When you say "0.9", is that DeI version 0.9? Because the one on steam says it's version 0.85, and I looked at that to see if there are any new units added, and there aren't any. Is the latest version of DeI no longer on Steam or something? Thanks!
masarius 12 Jun, 2014 @ 12:13pm
Thx man!
MuppetMan  [author] 11 Jun, 2014 @ 1:08pm
Btw, if there are missing names due to new units and that really bugs you, you can easily turn this mod off and on as many times as yuo want, it's completely save game compatible.
MuppetMan  [author] 11 Jun, 2014 @ 1:07pm
Hey guys, thanks for the reminder about the update, I don't personally use DeI any more, but I will try and do it as soon as possible!
masarius 10 Jun, 2014 @ 9:23am
An update for 0.9 would be awesome :) Getae got some new units after all :)
0BLIVI0N 9 Jun, 2014 @ 9:52am
Can we get an update on this for 0.9? Cheers
blasphemer 7 Jun, 2014 @ 2:01am
This is excellent! Thank you very much. Hope to see you update when 0.9 is out!

@Petithardcard
i like the divide et impera mod but dont speak latin or ancient greek, thats why i like this mod. also to call them 'historcicaly accurate' is not true anyway. if im playing as a nomad tribe for example how is it historicaly accurate for my units to be named in latin or greek? most factions would have had different names for the same units, all i want to know is if they are spearmen or bowmen etc, calling them an 18 letter latin name just makes battles more complicated
Smash_The_State 15 Apr, 2014 @ 9:08am
Good job, it works ;-)
FentanylWallaby 14 Apr, 2014 @ 3:34am
I still think calling your slingers "funditores" is kinda awesome, well just a little bit.
Drewsko 13 Apr, 2014 @ 12:04pm
some people are just hard wired to hate 1st, understand later. Maybe!
MuppetMan  [author] 13 Apr, 2014 @ 10:26am
@Axeface
yes you're right I went through all the descriptions and shortened the ones that were too long, and just rewrote some of them that I thought were kinda bad. Glad you enjoy the mod, and I will keep the two mods separate.

@Petithardcard
A good question, with a good answer: Divide et Impera is more than just a UI overhaul, it's a gameplay overhaul too. Some people want to have the historical gameplay features but a naming system that is more familiar and easier to play with, I found having units in Latin/Greek/whatever just added an unnecessary layer of abstraction. Also, stop hating. Some people appreciate it, and no one's forcing you to download it.
van Leeuwenhoek's mustache 13 Apr, 2014 @ 8:19am
...Why do you even play DeI if you get turned off by its historical features?
So you get turned off by historical names but completely unrelated English ones are ok with you? LOL
Drewsko 13 Apr, 2014 @ 7:24am
u da man muppetman
Axeface 11 Apr, 2014 @ 3:32pm
PS: As for combining as suggested by who goes thar, i'de pref if they stayed seperate. I like having the dei faction names.
Axeface 11 Apr, 2014 @ 3:31pm
I as actually going to request that you took a look at the unit descriptions too as some are so... so... so... so... so... long, and it seems you've done that anyway! Much appreciated. Will sub/rate once I start playing dei again :) Thanks again
Mashsmouth 10 Apr, 2014 @ 7:07pm
Dude, you should combine your two mods. If anyone would want one, they'd almost certainly want both...

Just a suggestion.
Jupsto 10 Apr, 2014 @ 5:44am
looks like it works fine, thanks this is going to help me alot when my friend wants to play DeI head to head and cant remember name of a single unit.
