hold onto the handles, then hold couch, steer yourself in, then let go

how to use auto pilot?
Checkmate 3 Jan @ 10:11am
Seems to have worked, either my settings changed or something in SW did, but it's solved now!
TomDRV  [author] 3 Jan @ 9:44am
@checkmate. Okay, Please could you try high physics settings? iirc that was always required for this.

If something about the physics model has changed that breaks this it's unlikely i'll be able to fix it without building a totally new design, which would just be a new vehicle.
Checkmate 3 Jan @ 9:31am
No, they're on low. But I've never had this issue before now.
TomDRV  [author] 3 Jan @ 9:30am
@Checkmate, are your physics settings set to high?
Checkmate 3 Jan @ 8:44am
Is an awesome chopper, unfortunately as of 04/01/2025 the right hand landing gear wheel is scuffed upon spawn, the rotor is unstable in some spawns and the gears break and become scuffed on anything more than a pillow-soft landing. Please fix! This is my favourite chopper but now it's borderline impossible to even get out the hanger due to rotation caused by the scuffed gear!
TomDRV  [author] 23 Nov, 2024 @ 8:08am
Yes. If they can't that's a stormworks bug and nothing to do with the harnesses I don't think. I haven't played in a while, but I don't remember any harness which couldn't take NPCs, I've rescued dozens of NPCS with this.

fyi: Check the instructions for getting in/out the harness above. It's possible to do it realistically with the handles on the side of the helicopter without fancy contraptions some people resort to.
Checkmate 23 Nov, 2024 @ 8:00am
Quick question, does your winch system work for NPC rescues? I've had a few choppers with winches and none of the harnesses can hold NPCs
TomDRV  [author] 31 Aug, 2024 @ 2:06pm
It's very intricate in places due to the volume limitations in a 1:1 air frame. I'd recommend copying another if it's your first time
dillonkav11 31 Aug, 2024 @ 1:40pm
Thanks. I'm trying to build my own helicopter and I'm going to have to try and work my way through all the logic and MCs... this aught to be interesting
TomDRV  [author] 27 Aug, 2024 @ 2:40am
@dillonkav11
They're very highly geared (turbine) 1>60 (rotors) if I remember correctly. Check the gearboxes in the drivetrain the rotor.

A powered down engine will also disconnect from the drive so the other engine isn't spending energy spinning it (freewheeler/SPRAG clutch approximation).

They also run at a constant RPS, so they're not throttling up and down all the time. The aircraft is also very compact (1:1 scale) and pretty light.
dillonkav11 26 Aug, 2024 @ 3:21pm
How are the engines so fuel efficient? I'm fairly new to the game, but even when I keep turbines to 10 rps the engines guzzle fuel like nothing else. 8 large fuel tanks gives me about 16 minutes of flight time.
TomDRV  [author] 1 Aug, 2024 @ 1:45am
Set to high, should do it.
Anathema 31 Jul, 2024 @ 3:44pm
Oh, that'd make sense. It's set to auto currently. Should I try switching to high/low?
TomDRV  [author] 31 Jul, 2024 @ 5:33am
I haven't played stormworks in a while . .. possibly your physics settings? It's a common culprit. Are they set to high?
Anathema 30 Jul, 2024 @ 6:37pm
I love this thing, but for whatever reason on my multiplayer career save I'm having some major issues with NR suddenly dropping mid-flight. I hadn't noticed it all all when I was messing around with it in creative mode a couple weeks ago. On the fuel MFD screen, whichever engine I'm using (or both if I'm using both) will turn red, then shortly after the NR will start dropping. It happens most often after hovering, but it's happened in straight and level flight too. Is it something I'm doing wrong?
TomDRV  [author] 12 Apr, 2024 @ 9:48am
Jet :)
アダム 12 Apr, 2024 @ 12:05am
what fuel does it run on?
TomDRV  [author] 5 Dec, 2023 @ 9:41am
Full instructions above. You need to take control :)
leonlion8u 5 Dec, 2023 @ 3:56am
How do you control the helicopter? I cant control it
TomDRV  [author] 6 Oct, 2023 @ 5:31am
@MrFinn

- Press the 'enable RC button on the center console.
-Take out the remote control
-check Freq of remote = remote Freq set on center console
- tap 1 and start controlling
TomDRV  [author] 6 Oct, 2023 @ 5:29am
@peanut.
Add Coords in the keypad. Then hold 2 for a second.
MrFinn 16 Sep, 2023 @ 10:52am
how do I use the remote control?
AirWolf 1 Sep, 2023 @ 6:20pm
By far the best SAR Helicopter out there use it 90% of the time and everytime i try a new one I just get disappointed and come back to this baby
penut 17 Aug, 2023 @ 4:06am
i really dont understand the ap system, how do u use it?
Puotek 9 Aug, 2023 @ 4:10pm
To date, this is the best helicopter I've come across on the workshop, and I've tried a lot of them.
TomDRV  [author] 26 Jul, 2023 @ 3:41pm
@Cptn_unicorn. Baggage usually! It's useful when doing passenger missions and they have a few boxes with them, and it can be used for any other assorted equipment you'd like to take somewhere, I like to paste equipment blocks straight into it before a mission if I need extra stuff.
Cptn_Unicorn 26 Jul, 2023 @ 2:06pm
What can go in the baggage hold? Other then that question it is a great masterpiece.
TomDRV  [author] 28 Jun, 2023 @ 2:40pm
@hog rider. Sorry I can't, it's a bit much hassle! Just read the checklist above and hit the buttons. Then use Stormworks' normal heli controls to take off :)
hog rider 15 Jun, 2023 @ 6:48pm
can u do a video on how to start it up and take off (that's how i learn best)
TomDRV  [author] 2 Jun, 2023 @ 11:40am
I think you mean the winches?
You can control them from either pilot seat, the panel by the door, the harness itself, or the remote.
My Best Mates Gay 2 Jun, 2023 @ 9:15am
do you need remote to use the side thingys if so what is the channel
TomDRV  [author] 20 May, 2023 @ 10:18am
@Frozen Axon

This, this reason and others are why I haven't completed anything since :D.

I've bypassed the charger and updated the creation. @Mcjack167.
FrozenAxon 20 May, 2023 @ 9:47am
@TomDRV Yes, I've noticed it. The flickering issue is caused by the screens being hooked up to the charger. If you bypass the charger and hook them to the relay, the problem goes away.

This is an unfortunate fix, because I know that the chargers used to provide a stable, constant voltage that would keep the screens bright as the batteries died, but that is no longer the case
Mcjack167 18 May, 2023 @ 12:36pm
does anyone know why the screens in my stormworks are all bugging out, they have all their pixels broken and black pixels everywhere
HenryRO7 4 Apr, 2023 @ 11:10am
Yeah, no clue what's causing it though
TomDRV  [author] 14 Jan, 2023 @ 9:53am
Hi everyone, now that the charges are working again the screens have picked up somekind of flicker and some buttons do (the cockpit doors) I'm thinking it's something with the charger's power supply. Has anyone else noticed it?
TomDRV  [author] 14 Jan, 2023 @ 9:42am
Yes it is, they were always fully plugged in, we just had to plug them into *themselves* (yes) while they were bugged. Basically a bypass.
Callum 14 Jan, 2023 @ 4:26am
@Anubis? Has it been fixed for you now? Just loaded it up and charger's fully plugged in.
Callum 14 Jan, 2023 @ 4:25am
hi
TomDRV  [author] 29 Dec, 2022 @ 11:04am
@ryan, do you have a lower physics setting enabled? High settings must be on
lIlRyanlIl1 29 Dec, 2022 @ 10:34am
Somehow the Helicopters Rotors become unstable and after you reach a certain speed the rotor blades fall apart causing you to crash.
FrozenAxon 13 Nov, 2022 @ 1:10pm
@MasterWasTaken It means that the mode is set to Idle
yaoyl 13 Nov, 2022 @ 5:36am
what does I mean on the engine modes?
Anubis 14 Oct, 2022 @ 11:56am
@TomDRV Thanks for your work!
TomDRV  [author] 13 Oct, 2022 @ 3:16pm
Spoke with a community-helper. The devs are aware of the issue and we can expect a fix in ~2weeks, after the industry DLC has been taken care of.

HOTFIX: In the meantime, you can tie together the inputs and outputs of the two chargers. One is just behind the overhead panel in the cabin roof, the other is just behind the luggage bay in the tail. However, this may cause faster battery draining.
TomDRV  [author] 4 Oct, 2022 @ 2:53am
Yep, I've just investigated it. Everything is still connected right, but the chargers don't seem to be transferring power between their nodes, I've linked this to the dev team to bug-fix

MaxtheMushroom 3 Oct, 2022 @ 8:23pm
something to do with the power is seriously broke.
