It always felt strange to me that the Gonarch, elevator ride, and gargantua encounters had such bombastic and memorable tracks, but the Nihilanth got nothing but ambience. On one hand, it does definitely make the fight feel more ominous, but on the other hand, there is a group of people who would've preferred something more.. well, as you put it, "traditionally climactic", and I think this track fits well whilst not being too over the top. Good pick!
