I've pulled the two sides apart to be farther away from each other at the beginning, and that seems to fix a lot of the issues at launch. The problem is that so much is going on at the start, that the game has to render it all, which causes the lag. Even on a dedicated server.
I love the concept of this, but I have to get it working smoothly, or else anyone who joins my server will simply leave when they too have performance issues.

16GB Corsair xms3 RAM
EVGA GTX780 3GB
and game installed on SSD
