if you need help with getting the paint to be the same all you have to do is take any block and hold the middle mouse button and select the pick paint button.
and if you don't know how to align the blocks with how he placed the all you have to do is press F1 then go to grid settings and switch the placement grid origin from global grid origin to targeted grid origin.
