And for the mod order, not necessary. The way mods changes the game are a bit messy in Shogun 2. It's great that we are allowed to mod it, but the way things works is complicated. For some mods that changes the same files you will need to use it first. For others, you'll need to use them after...
My advice would be to stand your troops behind the cannons. The enemy will charge you no matter what (even if you are the attacker), if you position the cannons in a place they can take the entire map. When the enemy gets closer, charge in. In my battles I barely miss any troops using this tactic.
If you know how to use PFM, you can change the firing arc easily.
In my game I've not yet reach the modernization level 4, however, the gun is appearing normal over the description in the tech needed. Do you have meet all the requisitions?
