I'm on the steam deck and they just show up as a terrifying humanoid shape I'm not sure what I did wrong

I don't know which DLC affects this, but after turning off all DLC this mod works.

for anyone having issues. enable the mod. right click the character and at the bottom left there is a small paint button that says, "Switch Outfit". That is where you can select which skin you want.

It's a mod conflict, just remove a skin that was added before

i see there's standalone. I was wondering if there was any way to have both without needing to make it standalone. Sorry if that was not clear. I just didn't want duplicate classes to do the same stuff and have to modify trinkets etc

Read the description, there is a link on how to set up a standalone version as a new class. As far as I know it is not possible to have different animations on different skins on the same class.

is there/will there be a way to have these as additional skins rather than being a complete replacer (and losing ur other skins) or standalone class?

There is none, it replaces the base files to these, which is why you can't use other skin mods on top of this mod because they are based on the original rig rather than the one the author uses.
