The speed of the vehicle is naturally fast even not in ludicrous mode, but make sure the "Infinite Energy" cheat is not enabled, as the infinite energy gives entirely too much power to the motors and causes the vehicle to spin out.

The vehicle does not have a "chill mode", and from revisiting the vehicle, I do not see anything wrong with it.

Distance sensors constantly measuring the distance on each side of the car. Then, the system does a bunch of calculating, and micro-correcting to keep you in the same place you engaged it!
