Cthulhu takes less sanity drain from all sources, such as darkness or monsters, but he suffers sanity loss from sunlight. In fact, he GAINS sanity in the dark!
heres an idea - possibly make him lose sanity FASTER from all sorces but the shadow creatures are neutral and he can tame them with nightmare fuel, and he regens health/hunger when insane and in SW he can just walk over water (and regens when he does)

I realize you may not still be working on mods, but is there any plans to someday update him for Shipwrecked? He'd be perfect there I think.

On a side note, I'm also having the issue with the game crashing when I try to use the building tab.

I believe Wickerbottom's books are coded so that only Wickerbottom can use them.

Yeah whenever I craft a book the book appears in my inventory for one tic and then fucks off to you're hardcoded not to have these land and I'm pretty sure that the string where this code comes from is called STRINGS.TABS.BOOKS and I looked anywhere where it could be in the directory and found nothing which means it's probably kicking around in a .dll somewhere.

Coding issues aside, part of the reason I don't want to port Cthulhu is because I want to update his art and general mechanics.

All my current DS modding efforts are on hold due to more pressing issues. I wouldn't count on a DST Cthulhu anytime soon.

He's based on his appearance from "Cthulhu Saves the World," which is based on the principle Cthulhu lost his all-mighty powers and is forced to do things off of muscle and blade.

I'm currently working on updating the mod to be "better," but not in the thematic shift sense to make him more like the good ole Lovecraftian Cthulhu. I don't believe that has a place in Don't Starve's character repetoire.

If I go for Deep One Chester, he'll look more like a frog-fish, rather than tentacle thing.

If I go for a shambler-looking route, tentacles are on the menu.

That's the plan when I said "Deep One Chester." It'll have Chester's rig and overall function, but it'll look more Eldritchy.

I suppose you could do it in a similar sense to the pouch mod. That adds extra backpacks, if you like. You could make one that is stored in the inventory that can be opened like one.
And yeah, the chester bit is a problem, but given his unnatural regenerative capabilities it doesn't bother me that much. Would still be nice to have though. When I do eventually build my cult around my base I'll just have chester stationary, as a free chest.

As cool as that would be, Chester offers more strategic insight then simply being a portal able chest. He can tank monsters, be upgraded to cool stuff, and can be attacked for life-steal.

That, and it's much easier to just re-code and reskin Chester than it is to create an entirely new entity.

Not saying that a transdimensional fissure storage thing isn't a possibility.

Or just give Cthulhu an extra dimensional storage space an item that when he uses it opens up a portal with some writhing tentacles comming out of it that serves the same function as chester

I would say when Cthulhu finds the eyebone he simply eats chester and than uses the bone as a focus to access the storage portal :)

It is possible to befriend merms, as several mods do so. I'll look into it in the Second Reforging, but it involves altering brains a lot. Likewise, I'd have to make Deep-One Chester, as Merms will naturally beat up Chester.

Very good mod so far though. Is it possible to script befriending of merms? I know there isn't any script for it so far because it's never been a thing but is it possible to actually have them work the same as pigs?

Unless I went and wrote a line for every mod-based weapon to remove the "weapon" tag from it, Cthulhu should be able to use mod tools just fine.

Just make sure that this inability to use base game items does not acidently blacklist weapons and tools from other mods

Heyo! I'm actually working on a massive update for Cthulhu as a character to put more emphasis on his weaponry and armor upgrades.

Part of this upgrade will include the inability to use base game weapons and armors [Cthulhu will state they're "too petty for one of his greatness" or something along those lines.]

However, I plan to expand his weapon vault to encompass Swords, Axes, and Maces, each with their own upgrade paths and perks. This also includes special upgrade materials crafted from monster drops, ala true RPG.

Part of this entire system will place more emphasis on his sanity: while he takes nelligble sanity drain from Night and Monsters, a lot of his better weapons and armor have high Sanity Drain, or even Health Drain.

Suggestion: No drain from shadow weapons/armour and a sanity boost when near shadow chester?
