It's not "everyone else is doing it". It's called following a set standard. People like customization. If you don't like customization, simply don't customize yours. While some people may intentionally make their loadouts as ugly as you can, there are also plenty of people out there using nice sensible paints such has the varying shades of brown, or teamcoloured ones to help blend the hat into whatever type of outfit they're trying to create.

Almost every cosmetic item in TF2 is paintable. If you don't want to paint yours, that's your deal. You shouldn't be trying to force your opinions onto others.

Especially not if your argument essentially boils down to "some of the paint colours are ugly".
