Sit in the cockpit and press T for terminal and find the mining rigs and turn them off from there

Is there a hot key to turn of the mining rigs? I at least now that the middle switch in the cockpit is sudden death :-(.

Playing the game again and the crazy Ivans are broken. Won't work at all. Is there a fix? Do I need to rebuild? Please help

It has a switch that turns them on/off, I use the terminal in cockpit mode to control them, default key "T". It's named "Moon Em" I believe. It will reach maximum velocity then I back off and reapply "W" or "Up Arrow" as needed. That all being said, your ship may be glitched some due to building into the ground. I'd right click and un-construct it entirely, then replicate a new one a few blocks above ground level.

ok, got it into the air. It was a screw up on my part, built it on the ground.......well, more like into the ground. thank you for the help though. But now I have trouble getting the crazy ivans to keep working.

Make sure it has fuel, make sure the engine switch is turned on, then enter the cockpit and hold your key assigned to hover up. I think the default is space or Ctrl.
