THANK YOU! :davion:

They made hardened steel a bit useless considering you could just get the Black Ice tools by running in and avoiding enemies in the Temple of Frost, so their way of making sure players don't do that was to add hardened steel tools into the recipe for black ice, but I just kill a few Nordheimers, yoink the tools and skip to black ice straight from steel.

It's nice that this mod makes it a bit better, because hardened steel tools are crap due to black ice being so easy to get after.

You are the ONLY person who has been willing to make a mod that improves the formula for the Hardened Steel. Playing Solo or with the wife is basically impossible with the vanilla methods and recipes. So thanks for this. :steamhappy:

This is an old official recipe before it changed to black ice, I don't plan on changing the ingredients :

@😸 Would you ever consider an adjustment to use the 'steel fire' mixture rather than just the brimstone, if nothing else it makes a bit more sense and is a little more balanced.

Sorry, my fault, I have crafting costs halved in the settings because I detest the default resource grind, and that also causes these sorts of conversions by halved (and rounded, so 5 to 1 becomes 2 to one). THAT ALL SAID - given that it takes 1 black ice and 1 steel to make hardened steel, I am ok with it being 1-to-1 in my game with brimstone. TLDR - not a bug, but a setting I didn't relize also affected conversions like this, but of course it does.
BINARYGOD 19 Mar, 2021 @ 1:07pm
I have this loaded last and right now it's one to one, where one Steal and one Brimstone make one Hardened Steel - and not the 2-to-1 that is appear it should be. Perhaps this is a load order bug? Are there any mods that this should always come before that you anyone knows of?

This mod is a great complement to Iron Mines Matter Again, giving a use back to sulfur and streamlining the hardened steel production chain to match steel production in that mod.

I love this mod, this is so simple yet so elegant. Thanks for your great work!

Sorry I do not plan to make a variant of the mod with a different recipe.

The mod ID is 1857820898
Tyramizou 24 May, 2020 @ 10:36am
I cant find the MOD ID... please tell me.
Serp 22 May, 2020 @ 8:38am
thanks, could you maybe also make an additional mod with a new recipe?
Assuming this brimstone recipe is too easy and black ice too hard, you could make a mod with medium difficulty, that is doable without going into the snow region.

@cas2013 Yah, but enemies up in that area if both very tough and also far area from lower areas, so if you need to at least have a good thrall and maybe at least 40lvl or something to go up and get black ice for hardened metal, why not just skip it and go straight for legendary weapons since they be much easier to get and once you have them you can just farm repair kits of the mobs up in the sunken city, which make hardened steel pointless to even consider the hassle of getting at that point.

Upon limited investigation, the need specifically for black ice seems to be little more than an artificial barrier to the late game armors. Nothing in the quenching process requires the fluid to be exceptionally cold and steel can be hardened in water or other fluids. Its the heat that hardens the steel, but also makes it brittle, then you have to temper the steel using a cycle of heating and cooling to the right temperatures. Exceptionally cold liquids are not required for any part of this from what I have read.
From a mechanical standpoint its nice to have what amounts to an easier option that allows you to reach end game armors without needing to venture too far into the harsher parts of the map. Especially for single player games. If this free, optional, modification is not to your liking, simply don't use it.

Thank you so much for this.
Trap House Chief of Staff 24 Sep, 2019 @ 5:48pm
bringing metal down to ultra cold temps can help during the forging process. so the black Ice makes sense. but brimstone is easier to obtain earlier in the game
Zaphod4th 23 Sep, 2019 @ 3:12pm
need black ice for hardened steel? well, the sources of black ice is the same as star metal, why just don't skip to star metal?
Harkoon 22 Sep, 2019 @ 2:59am
It's logical to use balck ice. More than using brimstone two times, first to make steel with steelfire and second to make hardened steel from steel. There are some spots at the right side of the green biome. And yes, it is some distance to go, but thsi game is made to do so, if you want all recipes. But für the endgame there is a maproom....

I disagree with you. Sense of using black ice to make relatively commonlit Hardened steel has no.
It has no logic. Steel and Hardened Steel are manufactured all over the world (Conan world).
Black Ice is a local very rare raw material in a forgotten - isolated area of the world.
Therefore, it has logical use only for things with local uniqueness.
Vlad 10 Sep, 2019 @ 6:19pm
when respecting the lore, it makes sense to use black ice. due to the massive gap between steel and hardened steel and game mechanics, it's more of an espionage mission where you kite nasty mobs to harvest sweet black ice

Thank you. A mod that puts thing right. Amen
G.A. 9 Sep, 2019 @ 11:03am
Thank you for this mod. The latest official game update, has made a nasty mess.
daydream1013 9 Sep, 2019 @ 7:11am
Thank you for this! I play mostly on single player so the new change wouldn't have effected me that much but I hate the idea of having to go to the northern region before I was prepared to go solo. So thank you!
