The mod does still work. I'm not really sure why it's not working for you.

Also there was a comment here before that asked about why it had "DE Compatible" in the title at some point; the reason was that this mod came out during a time where Xen didn't exist yet, and I was actively updating and maintaining this mod alongside the Xen update. The Xen Update was referred to as "Definitive Edition" at the time which is why the label was there.

An excellent Grunt model, a cross between the Classics and the updated one, but for some reason it doesn’t work for me, I followed the instructions as usual: I subscribed, at the same time threw it into the 'custom' folder, I launch BM it and test it for a quick meeting at the head of “Forget about Freeman” - default, the Grunts remained what they were. Conclusion - it’s an old mod and it worked before the full release of 2020 BM or before the global update after the full release (I don’t remember when it came out, like in 23-22)

I'm only asking because: In the BMS:Classic map overhauls it seems that they utilize the elites in the maps of the last chapters before Xen. To the point that some people were complaining that their Alien Grunts visual mods weren't working properly, to which the authors of the maps overhaul responded that they needed to utilize a mod that also replaced the elite versions of the alien grunts.

iirc the Elites and normal ones share the same model because they're the same entity just with a flag enabled, so it would take substantial work to make it only work for the ones in Xen

So, to reiterate, it really isn't worth my time unfortunately. I'm an unpaid mod developer and this is a deprecated project that I'm not totally satisfied with as this model was actually a port of a mod I made for the original mod version of Black Mesa when I was like, 16. If I were to ever revisit this I would remake the mod entirely instead of going through the hassle of downloading my own mod and decompiling it just to tear apart a model I'm not happy with anymore

Alright, sorry about that. Just saw that Steam didn't show that it was updated, and figured that you just abandoned it. Might as well update the description to say that, though. Plus, I feel like decompiling the workshop version and all that would be worth it. Besides, Crowbar, Source-IO, Blender Source Tools and everything else should help you. Hasn't been updated since 2019 anyway, so might as well make edits for Definitive Edition and whatnot.

I did update it, the description is just outdated. Both the naked and clothed grunts work. when you get to updating this mod, will it be possible to replace the grunts in the tubes and surgery walls in interloper's factory segments? not a huge loss if not but it is always a slight hit to immersion

Awesome! It has this sleek and modern sci-fi look to it that works very well. The armor having a rainbow chrome shine is a nice touch. :steamthumbsup:

ah, thanks. It's very good to hear with a certain level of skill this quality of asset can be made in 1-2 days. My goal is to eventually be able to make whatever I want for a game within an amount of time and effort snall enough that the fun I'll have when it's done is still worth the creation process, and I was worried it could be that each damn model takes like months to make, rendering my idea impractical

I use various parameters to bake the AO, Sharpness, Thickness, and more, from the HD Sculpt of the mesh, into a retopologized model, first. Then, I used this AO, Sharpness, Thickess, etc. information to paint multiple different layers of materials which were hand-crafted by me, all featuring normal maps and such.

For me it took about 1-2 days, but that's because I have a life time of experience and am able to push these types of assets out rather quickly.

Well.. I'm not exactly sure how to answer that, really.

A combination of Substance Painter and artistic talent. It uses multiple shaders and material types that I assembled myself, and is a combination of both hand-painted and baked materials.

Their purple armour goes well with the hivehand and makes them more visually distinguishable from the green of the vortigaunts and the orange of the controllers.

Great design choice. Better than bms and classic. I don't suppose you'd consider updating this?

I don't think i'll make the movement of the mouth as I am having trouble working out shapekeys, but I will definitely do the dismembered parts at some point. I've just been working on other projects right now, as I also am planning on doing a Xen pass to replace the scenery Grunt objects with my Alien Grunt as well

I did take some inspiration from the mandibles of sangheilis in Halo. I really like mandibles.
