You have to climb up onto one of the roofs on the left side. From there you have to get onto the highway bridge. If you ever get stuck again it's worth to just noclip and look around yourself.

I jumped down into the canal, killed a couple of them, went down further, killed the ones under the bridge on the left, then turned around, went right, and shot the 2 in front of the trucks and now I dont know where else to go. All the invisible walls are blocking me.

well my my problem is that when i go into the airboat my fps dies

You go through the alley and jump down into the canal, preferably with the airboat that's at the start. Maybe the save spawned you in the wrong place? Try loading the save twice.

there's so much more of the map but i can't get there because of the invis walls

how the hell do you get out of the starting area?

Yeah, it's a "save" not a map, but calling it a map makes more sense :P. You need to download gm_bigcity if you don't already have it. Once you have downloaded it, just enter it and look around in the "Q" menu for the "saves" submenu. You should find the save there in the downloaded/subscribed section.
