4- Institutions: Easier to maintain, especially considering the Eastern Roman Empire still exists.
5- Traditions: Same as fashion—forget about reviving old pagan rites.
In summary, most of these points may sound like a stretch under deep analysis, but I hope this helps anyone play the submod without the discomfort or “OCD feeling” of doing something entirely ahistorical. The main issue is explaining why a character in 867 would be raised in the old Roman culture—but that is left to imagination. Greetings.
1- Religion: Reviving old Hellenism is impossible.
2- Fashion: Ancient styles could be reintroduced through the elite and social pressure, first among the upper and bourgeois classes (perhaps within decades), but the practicality of "barbarian" clothing would keep common folk using it. However, after centuries of Roman dominance, the lower classes might adopt certain symbols or practices that made them appear more “Roman.”
3- Language: Almost impossible in the short term. The survival factor is that the Papacy preserved Classical Latin as the liturgical language. Forcing it on common speech, however, would be nearly unachievable.
