I spent a lot of time adding and removing mods to figure out the cause and starting with this faction seems to be the only common denominator.
Colony Manager: it seems reasonable to me that the medieval era had stocks management
Medieval Medicine: I would think early medieval medicine would be a starting bit, but uncertain,
Insulation: given they were constructing their own houses instead of finding caves to live in, I'd think biomass insulation would be a reasonable request given that was a common roofing material, at least, based on depictions of them
Tribal and Outlander factions start with different research; since the Medieval faction is neither, it doesn't get either set of research.
