Alright, I'll try increase the number of health point of all the walls, but I am not sure whether it will work as I have no way of testing that. :/
But yes, I developed it and it worked for me as "drop and go": all my gates were at 10% of their lives after I loaded my saved game. There should be no need to hard-reset your game. Probably.
I made this mod only to prevent slavers from abducting my citizens. This mod stalls them for enough time for the gunners to stop working in the fields and run to the mounted crossbows, and to kill the enemies, leaving the 300hp gate with ~50hp. I had four simple mounted crossbows at that time.
Probably that one-hit thing is something hardcoded for the raptors, or some 8-bit overflow. :(
