I have long lost the original map so I can't bug fix any more but hopefully you will not have any stray zombies.
Actually, if you pause right at the start of the map you can see all the zombies. It's pretty much just the road that has specials, with a fair bit to the right of the road, but the fields are almost entirely basics. Also, why would you need "special" (I assume you mean tier 3 tech?) units? Snipers alone can handle anything and are the best at it for cost.
1. The stone quarries. Half of them are placed on inaccessible terrain and therefore it's impossible to get power to/repair them.
2. There are units that you are unable to reach. The bottom right area, there's no way to reach the zombies.
I will be uploading my playthrough of this map sometime this week (I hope), which will show how I beat it. The gist is:
1) Head straight for the Com Center
2) Split the units up into 4-5 groups and set attack waypoints for them to clear out the main island.
3) Focus on clearing a path to the woodcutters so you can continue upgrading housing.
4) Focus on economy while maintaining constant unit production.
5) Research Spikes or Ballistae or Shocks to defend the wave.
6) If you get the mayor with Lucifers, take it!
7) Clear the farmland next.
8) Buy iron from the market as needed.
9) Get more soldier centers as you can afford them (I had 7 or so at end) but keep eco growing.
10) Grab all the non-Ranger mercs from the inn.
11) Don't worry about defenses at all after the day 8 wave, just pump out soldiers/snipers and clear.
I've managed to clear all the land in the top half of the map, or rather all the territory north of the river, and fully rebuilt the city. However my troops can barely make a dent against the Southern Horde no matter how many soldier centers I built to crank out hundreds of soldiers. They are killing the zombies sure, but their so packed in their my troops advance by inches. I then realized I needed the advanced units to go out en masse to clear the zombies in time, but they all require oil that I just dont have. Aside from a few mercenaries out of the Inn I've never been able to make advanced soldier units of any kind.
Is their an oil deposit I missed? Or have I not figured out the real secret to winning?
I'd really appreciate some tips.
I would have won, but my troops couldn't reach about a dozen zzzis close to the bottom right corner and the game counted it as a loss :/
For those playing, I recommend going to the command centre asap. My first playthrough trying to clear with the initial units didn't end up well...
Well done!
