Instead of having it be so round, maybe make it more stiff. For example, make the legs "jointed" to show the crab's armor plating and rigid body. Another idea is to maybe make the crab's body top more flat and then bevel the underside. I think by reworking the model, you can make an outstanding design without increasing the polygons by too much.

What kind of detail? HLMV didn't work so I took the preview shot straight from the modeling software; there's a normal map for shell-like ridges as can be seen in the paint picture

I would like more detail as well. Don't get me wrong, I love all the pet items, but he looks so...wooden.

I personally think a bit more detail to the design of the crab; unless you are going for a Beanie-Baby crab, then you got it.

Your LoD1 shouldnt exist, there is little difference in looks between it and your LoD2. Dropping just 100 tris between LoD's of that polycount is inefficient.
