Ah there's the problem. This was primarily made for multiplayer and coop. If you die in single player it doesn't play the same audio as in multiplayer. After a multiplayer death, a music track plays as you are in spectator mode. The track is fairly long so there is time for the continue countdown to play. After a singleplayer death (or if you're the final person to die in coop campaign) a very short track plays. It's around 3 seconds so there isn't enough time for the countdown.
