The story is sort of a hard-ish sci-fi fantasy thing I've been working on for well over twenty years now, and it's ended up being very... Destiny with Cowboy Bebop tech level, if you want a general vibe.
It hyper-accelerated technological growth, which ended up with Humanity creating an engineered species to act as slave-soldiers and workers that eventually rebels and nearly kills off Humanity.
Maybe one-in-four Humans is a psion of the most basic level, with every further quarter getting more powerful. The various alien species have similar rates of psionics, so Earth turns into a shell of its former self, with Humans on the outside from terraformed Mars and Venus, the Jupiter Gas Cities, and the mining colonies of Saturn's rings trying to take their home back, while the engineered soldier race just wants to make peace, and live alongside Humanity as equals.
I love it!
I'm not fixing it, be punished for your hubris.
