Classic had a liiiiitle bit of between-mission scaling, e.g. the assault frigates in mission 3 could be from 3 to 5 and either half health or full health depending on your starting fleet. But HW2/RM used it a ton for every mission, yeah.

Yeah on certain missions in RM-1 the bad guy fleets scale to to the size of your fleet, which I think is a mechanism from HW2. Does mean though that you run into ships insta-deleting even with 10x health haha only so long a frigates gonna last with 50 other frigates target firing it

I seem to remember that HWRM the salvage everything strategy was never really as effective/well balanced in vanilla as it was in homeworld classic, unfortunately. This mod would only make that worse of course lol

Turns out with bigger fleets to balance HW1 salvagers in later missions I had to speed them up. Even with the 10x health they die like flies once frigate blobs start popping up with 30+ ships

Ah heck, I thought I tested that! Well I'll probably make an engagements version for 3, unless they change the gameplay enough that I don't feel it's necessary, so I'll revisit all the values including movement speed then. It wasn't really an ideal fix anyway, marine/infiltration frigates were much easier to balance than the hw1 salvage mechanic.

Cheers!

@DeinonychusCowboy all good mate, happy you laid the path out for me :D

I was too dumb to figure out your C# engagement tool so I ended up modifying the ship files directly for the new ships - which helped me discover at least for single player the modified values or formulas in your lua for movement speed dont work. Salvage corvette still has MS of 255.

No worries DienoychusCowboy! We are all eagerly waiting on 3... and praying that it is good!
Honestly, your mods are some of my favorite here, they lined up exactly with my thinking that the ships in HW2 died too quick. Looking forward to w/e mods you put out in the future!

@[KoF] EdwardReynolds Nice work, sorry I'm lazy lol. Hopefully when 3 comes out I'll feel like getting back into HW modding again, for RM as well as 3
Queco Jones21 22 Jun, 2023 @ 4:38pm
Sweet! Thank you!
[KoF] EdwardReynolds 22 Jun, 2023 @ 2:42pm
Alrighty, ill make a clean version soon and post it up.
Queco Jones21 21 Jun, 2023 @ 5:58am
@ [KoF] Edward Reynolds: make it public!!!!
[KoF] EdwardReynolds 20 Jun, 2023 @ 9:06pm
Ive merged this + larger unit cap + capture anything + 2.3 community patch, and updated Bentusi/Kadeshi/Turanic ships with 10x health into one mod file for personal use - if theres any interest ill make it public
[KoF] EdwardReynolds 20 Jun, 2023 @ 2:28am
Doesnt seem to impact anyships other than Kushan/Taiidan so Turanic's and cloud people get smoked like vanilla.
DeinonychusCowboy  [author] 3 Feb, 2022 @ 6:40pm
@ArmoredPanther11 It wouldn't be related to this mod, it doesn't modify any sound files. Probably another mod or a configuration setting you have, maybe try doing a steam file validate.
ArmoredPanther11 3 Feb, 2022 @ 12:21am
i encountered a glitch were there is no sound effects. anyone know how to fix?
DeinonychusCowboy  [author] 16 Aug, 2020 @ 4:25pm
@Azona You need both this mod and the base Engagements mod enabled at the same time. You should be able to launch the single player game in that case, and it will have all the Engagements stat changes applied.
Azona 14 Aug, 2020 @ 4:36pm
stupid question how you launch this mod single player. if I select mods I only get multiplayer screen?
Alex Mcpherson 7 Nov, 2019 @ 10:45am
No need to do, like, Everything done in one go. Just incremental?

I can see it in my head now: load the three versions of the file for say, interceptors. Note down what changes were made to the specific file for the 2.3 patch, and in you 'modded' file noting what you changed from vanilla, and just putting those changes into a version of the 2.3 patch file.

Just remember to note your progression in the changenotes.
DeinonychusCowboy  [author] 6 Nov, 2019 @ 6:03pm
Yeah, I'd have to examine what all changed in the patch, but it's a possibility. I am still working on Homeworld mods, just pretty slow on it, I'll look at another round of Engagements improvements after I finish my current new one.
Alex Mcpherson 2 Nov, 2019 @ 3:11pm
Ever thought of doing an update to make compatible with the players patch?
Queco Jones21 14 Sep, 2019 @ 5:18am
Got it, thanks
DeinonychusCowboy  [author] 13 Sep, 2019 @ 7:02pm
Just the two you want.
If you want 5x health boost, use Engagements Lite. By default that applies only to multiplayer, if you also want singleplayer, use that and Engagements Lite Singleplayer Add-on. No need to also have regular Engagements in either version.
Queco Jones21 11 Sep, 2019 @ 7:19pm
So if I want to use the Lite version or the medium version, I need to activate the main mode, this one, and then the lighter version?
DeinonychusCowboy  [author] 4 Jul, 2019 @ 8:29am
@Doodah make sure you also have the main Engagements mod as described in the description, and activate both in the launcher menu.
Vepiru 5 May, 2019 @ 7:25am
I love the single player anyway because the balance of the game is different, the strategies change too, it's like rediscovering the game at a slower pace :)
DeinonychusCowboy  [author] 4 May, 2019 @ 11:15am
Ah that's very interesting info, thanks. I would have thought the turanic and kadeshi ships would be scaled up as well, I wonder if there's a formatting issue with their code compared to kushan and taiidan that caused the changes to not apply. Single player is still very much "use at your own risk" and will probably stay that way, but I can take a look at this at some point and see if I can bump them up correctly, because that's certainly what I intended to do.
Anorax Xarona 1 May, 2019 @ 11:45am
I have no idea what happened to the end of that comment and I can't edit it. Oh well lol.
Anorax Xarona 1 May, 2019 @ 11:43am
I have only one complaint which is also easily a suggestion as well.
In the singleplayer campaign, the Turanic and Kadeshi ships don't have nearly the same scaling of their health; I believe it's actually exactly the same. This is true across all variants of Engagements SP.
This also leads me to the opinion that Lite is probably the best for Singleplayer as the ship quantity normally will never reach what a multiplayer game would anyway, and shouldn't destroy balance too hard as a result.
Unfortunately this means that the missions involving them were disappointingly easy. Mission 3 was harder but there were also like 40 assault frigates that showed up.
I would just like their values scaled up. I'd love to tinker with your engagements-style editor but sadly don't have the time.
(plus I'd really like to capture and keep the 40 or so missile corvettes I had before they mercilessly exploded in mission 5)fire at them, rather than breaking away. They melt quite sadly.
Vepiru 14 Dec, 2018 @ 2:31pm
No problemmmmm :) Nice to see you back :)
DeinonychusCowboy  [author] 1 Dec, 2018 @ 4:56pm
Sure thing! Sorry it took so many years :P
