When you achieve a certain amount of gold in a single location, a leprechaun can grab it, allowing for a chase to collect extra gold and if done a certain way, the Lucky Charm (or whatever its called) as Monk. Perhaps some way to tell how much gold is in a pile? This would help, as normal gold is seen stacking depending on the amount of gold, allowing some idea of when a leprechaun may appear.
