I like it overall, but I wouldn't make the fabric paintable. Instead, make the eyes paintable. Also, as others have suggested, it would be nice to have a few styles for different eye shapes, such as the current one for "mad", one that's angled outward to look "sad", another where it's flat on the bottom for "glad", and then a neutral look where the eyes are fully round.
