Good map !
Not so hard to be trapped a long time but ask observation and reflexion. Nice for me!
Good job, I've enjoyed thanks a lot.

good idea. will give that a try if my portal ever will start working again...
Haggis 12 Jun, 2013 @ 5:02am
Sorry, be able, that was meant to read.
Haggis 12 Jun, 2013 @ 5:01am
Turn off sound, that greatly increases smoothness so u will b shown to increase your resolution.

Thanks also Haggis, I've given Fraps a try and am quite satisfied with what I get out of it. To make it smoother I just lower the resolution of my game while recording. Does't get you a HD quality clip, but smooth and good enough for the purpose. :)

I agree we sometimes do not see what others do and vise varsa. Your crediting is thoughtful. Thanks again. See you around the workshop.

When building a map it's hard to keep a blank player's perspective. In the mere 4 maps that I made so far I find that parts that I thought would be difficult are hard for some others, as well as the other way around. :) All the more reason to be thankful for all players willing to not only play, but also rate, and mostly comment on pros/cons/glitches. I will start crediting people who help with useful comments on my maps.

Finally got it. Much improved. I know it was obvious to you but it took me a bit to figure out how to get the glass cube to the opposit side of the room. Very nicely done. Thanks for your work and I hope you'll visit my workshop again and I'll do the same with yours.

Your demo did not work, I had this problem before with a workshop map. I used fraps, and virtual dub to make the file smaller. Fraps makes huge avi files which need to b reduced. Still trying to nail the quality of the video.

Hi Haggis, indeed you've got it. That's exactly the intended solution. :-) Thank you very much for testing it again and for creating and publishing that video. What method did you use to turn your demo into a vid?
Haggis 25 May, 2013 @ 12:26am
Well done Dr.Strangelove, the changes you made to the map, leads me to believe i have done it the right way, check out my run through. Will need to ask the guys on ThinkingWithPortals about the quality of thier videos, still not happy with it.

Thanks again for showing me those undesired solutions. I think (hope) to have fixed them. Added a tiny puzzle and some -to my taste- pleasing fixes for the exploits found by Haggis and Jade. Please keep your observations coming! :)

Lol, dont be disheartened, i had 2 of the best players i have ever seen rip my Robot Extraction map to pieces. They to made videos of what they did, these guys know the Portal engine inside out, i was totally blown away by what they were doing. I am on version 5 of the 2 maps. Each version, Shakky, one of the guys making the videos, would make a new video of exploits in the map, but with the help of these videos, i am narrowing down the exploits. Will have a look at how you did it, and try to offer advice. I now know how to make better quality videos.

wow, thank you very much for this movie. this was very insightful for me. i have my work cut out for me to find solutions against your solutions :D thanks again, the quality was just fine for this purpose. ... damn, do i have work to do :)
Haggis 22 May, 2013 @ 1:00pm
I made this video of how i did it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIdEkzPle4A&feature=youtu.be , sorry about the quality, first time making a video with fraps, but i know what to do the next time.
Dr. Strangelove  [author] 20 May, 2013 @ 3:46pm
Ah right, well done :) I've added a couple of walls (2 for the feeling of symmetry;) ), hopefully removing any options to let yourself go with the tractor beams towards the platform.
Jade BGE 20 May, 2013 @ 10:31am
No, I used the timer to remove the fizzler then I made a portal up high to peak through and shot a portal on the top of that flip panel.
It's strang I know, either we see it or we don't.
Sometimes I just need to sleep on things.
Dr. Strangelove  [author] 20 May, 2013 @ 3:54am
Lol and I thought that the part to get the stairs up was the easiest part :)
Intended solution is in a demofile: here [dl.dropboxusercontent.com].
I will try to think of a good way to prevent you from using the faithplate at the exit-side to reach the platform at the exit. , if that is the way you used it. Thanks again!
Jade BGE 19 May, 2013 @ 6:30pm
Though it was slightly tougher I still managed to accomplish it.
The good news is I still am unsure of the intended solution.
I was able to exploit the flip panel that the ball funnels over the top of.
Dr. Strangelove  [author] 19 May, 2013 @ 4:59pm
Hi Jade, thanks again for your comments :) I'm guessing you played the unchanged first version. You are very right that the more complex a map becomes -object wise, not necessarily puzzlewise- the more chances there will be that you can find someting exploitable. Still, those are the kind of maps i personally enjoy most so that's what I want to create... But indeed that will require more testing and tweaking than more 'simple' maps. I hope i have removed said shortcuts now.
Jade BGE 19 May, 2013 @ 4:05pm
I did it the same way as Haggis, then I dropped into the funnel and dropped out onto the exit platform so I didn't need the stairs. As he said these are good ideas and there is a lot going on. I find the more busy we make something the more possibilities of exploitation. But you'rer doing well and am sure you will work out the bugs.
Dr. Strangelove  [author] 19 May, 2013 @ 3:19pm
Hi Haggis, I appreciate your comments and your offer to help! I've not used Hammer yet, or made a single demo so bear with me. I have made a few small changes, hopefully removing the shortcuts you used. I will try to make a demo, and see how to publish it so you can access it. And of course I'd be happy to try your maps too :)
Haggis 19 May, 2013 @ 2:48pm
Hi there, really liked the map, but i think i did not do it the intended way, it has real potential though. I managed to get both the cube and ball over to the other side, then all i did was place reflective cube on the cube button to activate the funnels, then place a portal at the reflective cube and a portal at either side of the door, to drop them in their funnels . It would be good if you could record a demo of how it is supposed to be done, then upload it and send me the link, i can try and help iron out the unitended solutions, only if you want. I know how to use hammer, you can check out the 3 maps i have made, so you know i have a bit of experience in map making.
