Sadly it seems just impossible to fix this overlay so provinces shapes are correct. Trying to open area mode in the editor with such a big map just crashes the game.
For the historians, I started working on adapting* this map for Dominions in dom 2 era (*that Greyhawk map with 1500+ provinces -I remember cutting a lot from paper version- already existed it was an huge map made for an artisanal mail strategy game in the early 90s).
But Dominions wasn't supporting enough provinces and units at the time (and there was no terrain mask for caves etc), so I had to wait for dom 3 to finalize and release it.
Anyway I wish good luck to anyone wanting to continue the work for dom 5. Don't really have the courage to make the winter layer and draw each province shape in editor so feel free to complete it.
