This looks like it could have been a real vehicle in some alternate history where monorails became a successful mode of urban transportation in the US. Houston tried to develop a monorail-based regional metro(a la MARTA, WMATA, etc) as late as the mid 1980s. Its such a shame that plan never came to fruition, it would have been a really fascinating system and more useful than the surface light rail network that was ultimately built 20 years later.
REV0 and Ronyx69 struggled with this for a while but eventually settled on the crisp textures. It's up to you though which works best with your monorails. If you ask them (REV0 and Ronyx69) I'm sure they'll fill you in on how they got "crisp" textures for their monorails.
@VandelayOfficial Thanks! That's pleasing to hear/read!
@Agamemnicon Yeah, if the monorails could go underground, that would be like opening the floodgates of wonders, to me. I'm still really shaky with architecture, so it's going to take me a bit to figure out how to make it really look good. Then I have to learn how to edit the pedestrian paths. I'm not sure which mod(s) make that possible, and I'm really bummed out to see that you apparently can't do that without a mod. If I do succeed in making a proper station, I'm going to also make sure the noise level is decreased, since one of the main complaints about the monorail stations is that they're incredibly noisy for nearby homes.
I also think the developers should have allowed monorail to make tunnels, but that's probably beyond the ken of modders.
Anyway, great work on this, when I'm done (or tired of) recreating Chicago (no monorails haha), I'll pick this up.
@Roadmaster '93 That comment puts a huge smile on my face. That's why I agreed to make this. I wish I could remember who made the suggestion, because I thought it was brilliant, as it adds a new sense of variety and use to the monorail.
@Blujitsu It's a tough balance trying to find the right shade, as the game seems to brighten everything by a little. So if I make the gray too bright in Photoshop, it'll suddenly look near-white in the game. However, that really applies mostly to trains and other vehicles. As I left as a note in my description for this one, I seem to be getting this strange effect for my monorail (including the default one that comes with the game), where it's kind of cloudy looking. So there are a few fixes that'll need to be made. I'm not sure if that cloudiness is adding to the darkness you're seeing, or if I can safely raise it a bit. I can test that out more for you!
