Small map but beautiful and big enough to grow to 100k citizens which is where my laptop draws the line. Thank you Mr. Miyagi!

Where is the error pop up box (main menu when starting new game, during loading game, while you're in your save game, etc) and what does the error message say? Even though a map cannot cause errors, I'll see if I can help you. :)
