Yes, the tints in L4D are applyed to everything you will see, but FROM a defined area (in our case, the safe room itself).
There can be several tints used in a single map, and the tint files used are only defined by the map 's author. I work on the files to make those changes, that allows me to not touch map itself and keep light files.
So yes the tint of the outside visible from the safe room is the one applyed to all safe rooms of the game :p

@Silver @RATATAT no not anything inside the safe room itself, the areas just outside the safe room FROM a safe room perspective, in other words, the world into which u go just after exiting the safe room. Standing inside the safe room and looking through the opening where the door is. But I fear you're suggesting that this aspect too is common to all maps, as u say. Is this the case? So in other words, the game is programmed to keep the visible world outside safe rooms, when looked at from inside the safe rooms, at a certain tint? :(

@Foxy: nope, the addon doesnt conflict with VS, its just a tint/color correction, no map change.
@Trollonel: its because safe room tints are common to all maps so i cannot modify them without affecting other campaings too, that is why the tint only take effect after you get out the safe room!

Hey! I have one inconsistency to report and i hope u can fix it! :3 at the beginning of the second chapter when u are looking outside the saferoom, the large area just outside it doesnt look changed or dark like it does after u enter it. Thank you for your efforts! Nice work!!

About the mod: it is client sided only, but it is multiplayer compatible, so you can use it while playing on any server!
I dont think it is possible to make it server sided. It uses athmospheric post production settings (lights & shadow colors modifier, fog tint and effects tints) is considered as minor graphic change by valve so it is not server-checked because there is no risk of cheating when changing those settings.

About doing this for other campaigns, there is a huge issue: some of the lightning files (the mod change that) are used in multiples sequences and in different campaigns. so when i change one of these, it will also change the color of some other campaigns (if the mapper re-used the same file instead of creating a dedicated one).
Sometimes it doesn't fit well to the other campaign.
Its an annoying conflict and it makes the other maps very hard to change without unwanted sideeffects.
Also the maps i changed were the most badly lightned of the game, so that was 'easy' to fix, compared to some other campaigns where devs made a far better work on lights.

The only campaign where i can really improve something is Dark Carnival. But there is already somebody else that did a similar mod for Dark Carnival (but he made it too dark to my tastes).

This is excellent. Compared to this the other maps seem to be lit by massive fluorescent lamps. The only way forward is to go...darker. If you could do more campaigns that would be very welcome.

I really suspect the reason of such polarity is a differens of hardware. You shouldn't start worring about this before all details are clear.

Well, as some people ask me for darker, and some other lighter, i think the solution may be in splitting this into 2 Mods, with separate settings, otherwise i will never manage to pleased everyone :(

I set the brightness to max but pucture still too dark, not even close to screenshots here. Maybe it depends on videocard type. I have Intel HD Graphics 3000.
