Sadly it did not fix the issue. But don't be to hard on yourself, regions as I have been told, are apparently quite the pain in the butt...

There you go (the coulour that says 'LordHobart' in those funky letters is actually the herne faction, you can see how much they control) And I don't think it's a lack of good luck, I have tried three different games with these guys, always close to the same amount of controlled sectors each time. I also don't have any mods active that would be causing this.

idk, a link ? XD and no, they don't really control a lot normally, maybe you're just unlucky.
they have 5 regions:
2 large near the border
3 small, more powerful mid way to the center
but i'll look at it

Well, what I mean is that they control fairly large portions of the map (now maybe this is intentional, I don't know...) But it feels like a bit much. I would like to give a screenshot, but I have yet to find a way to post screenshots on comment sections on steam.

So, I take it that these guys are not supposed to start off controlling most of the map.

On another note, I find this factions colour scheme relaxing...
