I say "Do not ask me for X, I will not do X," and of course, people immediately ask for X.
Shadowdragon, the mod is fine as it is, it adds ambience and variety to the game and 1) People do not HAVE to use the mod, and 2) If they do they do not HAVE to pick all the stuff up in these rooms.
I note with some satisfaction that this mod, while hardly the most popular Dungeons of Dredmor mod, is still ranking on the second page of the most popular mods. It has hardly "been forgotten" as Mazaryn (who was posting under the name Joneithevius in February 2014,) predicted.
Apparently, quite a few people (2,818 of them, in fact,) consider Dungeon Life to be well worth the subscription, and don't give a damn that I get quite short when people make high-nosed demands that I make a "balanced" version of it that suits their definitions of game balance.
@John Deere: It's been a long, long time since I've played Dungeons of Dredmor, but it wasn't too hard, from what I recall. One of the big monster unions could be dangerous if you got one on level 1, but they could be survived if you were tough, clever, and good.
Also, your latrine rooms made me watch more tentacle porn. God damn you witty descriptions!
It is not polite and respectful to ask the cashier to accept a check in full knowledge of this fact, no matter how obisquieously you word said request.
I wasn't polite, but I wasn't *rude*, either. Not until he suggested I had my head up my arse. Then I (rightly) got nasty.
Oh wait, no, the other thing. If you want to cut your nose off to spite my face, so be it. I said in the intro of this mod that I wasn't going to accomodate any requests to make it "balanced," and not to bother asking.
In full knowledge of that fact, Joneithevius summarily entirely ignored my up-front stated stance on the topic and asked me to do just that, or even to hand over the mod to someone else.
I took offense at such requests, and told him so. He then responded by insulting me twice, and I took him to task for it.
If that makes me "elitist," then so be it.
What does not suit me is entitled Internet brats telling the creative mind behind making something that they didn't do it to the entitled brat's taste and to change it, especially when said entitled internet brat has read in all foreknowledge that the specific changes they are suggesting were already considered (over a year before they suggested - nay, begged,) have been explicitly rejected by the author.
So, no. I will not make a "Balanced" version of this mod. I absolutely refuse to do so, I refuse to compromise the "What are you likely to find in these spaces" quality by thinking "This much stuff might be overpowered to give the player," and if you can't handle the monsters in them, well, you're toast if you run into a monster zoo. I also refuse to allow someone else to bastardize it in such a manner. This mod isn't for those who like a "balanced" gameplay experience.
If you don't like it, vacate the Monster Union Cooking Area.
One could tell from a mile away the rich DF-ness.
Oh, and I'm sorry, but my modding skills aren't up to the snuff of detecting robot players and allowing them to use the robotic latrine. :) Beep boop.
As for the update... It's not going well, I'm sorry to say. No matter what I try, I can't seem to get the shop to work. It's very frustrating.
oh and I AM A ROBOT BEEP BOOP
@Bear Warrior: No, it doesn't. Removing the shops would require replacing files in your default game directory. If you haven't seen shops in two floors, that probably just means you're having godawful luck, and the game hasn't picked any shop rooms randomly to populate your dungeon floors with.
Also, since this mod has hit 500+ subscribers, I think I'll go back to it and add a few new rooms. Maybe some shops. Shop smart, shop Brax-Mart. :)
I didn't mean to imply you had illegally acquired Dungeons of Dredmor, but that there might have been a transaction error when you bought one or more of the expansion packs.
Nevertheless, I'm getting the problem sorted. I know what it was, and I'm fixing it. As we speak, in fact, a fixed version should be up within the hour.
It seems that they went and renamed elements I used in the mod. I'll get this fixed posthaste.
@Pudge: I can't believe I didn't think of that. I'll go get some as soon as I can recall the formatting to test rooms.
