This is tooo nerfed The pack and 2 bottles doesn't even last 20 seconds

Never mind! I left my moon pod to do some maintenance while flying over the moon surface only to get stuck midair, i couldnt fly back to the cockpit because of how much the power was nerfed (notice: it was above the moon's surface so around 0.2g), i quickly using build vision turned off the thruster so the ship would land before the fuel ran out (in like 5 seconds) and i started falling, only to bounce off 700~ meters away from the pod and somehow survive with 7hp and then had to walk all the way over.

i understand you wanted to nerf it in gravity but i expected this little amount of jetpack power while on earthlike, not in the moon's orbit! youre basicaly stuck if you get ejected away from your ship and cant move at all, even with ship related dampeners on, I would at least double if not triple the current amount of jetpack fuel while making it possible to move at at least 5m/s on the moon please

While at first i was unsure about downloading a Jetpack nerfing mod, i then remembered how i flew orbits around the moon with an empty inventory looking for bases to loot and that one time i left atmosphere with just a Jetpack and then used the hangar plugin to spawn my ship up there, so Yeah, vanilla jetpacks are kinda over powered and this mods makes you focus on making your ships more accesible

To the dude whining about 'we have jetpacks that can really fly for 9 minutes' Why don't we take a look at how massive those jetpacks are? While It would be nice if the jetpacks gave your jumps a bit more oomph, I've been feeling all along that they've got way too much power for the size and simplicity of the things.

I'm downloading the mod now, so I don't have hands on experience, but I think the concept is spot friggin on. Thank you Dumpshock.

This mod is not remotely realistic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_pack) There is a jetpack with a flight time of 9 minutes in real life according to the wiki, yet upon discovering this mod being added, you can't even get off the ground while on the planet. Nerfing lift is not correct, but fuel effiency makes sense.

Hey man. I like this mod and how it makes things on the ground more realistic but it is a burden in space. Is there any way to tweak it so there's a bit more power in space? Or just in general? I'd be okay with a bit more power everywhere if it didn't mean drifting around like a space suit with a 100 ton weight attached.

Aye the intention here was to turn jetpacks into something that can slow your fall - but not allow you to fly in full gravity.

In space and on the moon etc you'll be able to fly, but have limited acceleration and of course, limited fuel.

@SpicyMiku-chan - That sounds like it's working to the intent of the mod to me as long as you are in gravity.

From what I understand, this was meant to practically disable jetpacks while in gravity, forcing you to try and rely on construction of vehicles and scaffolding.

On my end, everything was fine until after your update i think.

It's behaving really strange, When I turn on my jetpack I basically can't do almost anything. First I can rotate but not fly, then i can't rotate and the character returns to "standing mode" while the jetpack is on.

When I try to jump and then fly, it looks like the jetpack isn't strong enough, and after a second or so it drops me down pretty quickly as if gravity just became 10 times stronger.

All these behaviours while its wasting the hydrogen in seconds.

@W4stedspace can you update the mod for us or can you at least pass it off to someone who can? This is a simple but essential mod and it would be great to have it working properly.

@Dumpshock I'm not having any luck getting this to work, so I have downloaded the characters.sbc file you have made, and placed that into appdata/roaming/spaceengineers/mods/jetpack/data/characters.sbc, once activated
it seems to have no effect. what should the file path be?

This mod breaks all player animations as of current version. I loaded it up into a clean world and narrowed the problem to this mod. I love the idea, however. A fix would be much appreciated.

I tried to use it just as Steam did their routine maintenance and when I saw all the red tags and no mods, I thought I had broken my SE for good, had a heart attack for a moment there:lunar2019shockedpig: It's all good now, just tested it and it's good as new. A basic guide on modding can be found here: https://www.spaceengineersgame.com/modding.html

In this case to make it a local mod, you want to look at "MOD FILES LOCATION"
You want to create a folder for the mod, then place the characters.sbc file under a Data folder.

From there, you will be able to activate it on your world.

@Dumpshock Thanks for providing a fix for this mod, but once I have the characters.sbc file, where do I put it? And if I did use it, would it only affect one world or all my worlds? Sorry, I'm new to this :D

Hey,

So in basic, all I did was take the newest characters file and port over the changes w4sted made to the Thrust Properties for the suits. Grabbing a new character file was needed as there had been significant changes since this was originally posted.

I provided the character.sbc in a paste below to the updated file and anyone that would want to locally create it they could from that.

I don't want to step on w4sted's toes with the mod of course, if there's demand for it I can post my changes into a new mod on the workshop for until w4sted updates. I imagine that he's been rather busy and has yet had a chance to have a look at this.

So, the issue is it's using an older characters.sbc file.

The fix is rather simple as this one is just missing the following line for animation controls: <AnimationController>Default_Astronaut</AnimationController>

I was able to get it working after entering that line. Whether there's anything else, I haven't really checked yet, but it seems basically functional.

Same on my end, stuck in T pose and can't open/close helmet. I'll try some testing on it later, see if I can't pin down a root cause.

Really want to try this mod, however it seems to break all the character animations. Even when it is the only mod loaded.

is the helmet not susposed to come off? forced to breath oxygen from suit at all times? or jetpack not turning on on surface but works in space?
