To ungroup things, first select the group and press "ctrl+shift+g" or go to the "selected" dropdown menu at the top and click ungroup.
To change the properties of a character, simply select them, press "u" or go to the "selected" dropdown again click "set selection script parameters." From there, a menu should pop up that allows you to change all sorts of things for that character. Click the dropdown option "script params" and you should find static at the near bottom of the list.
