Trump is currently in office for his second term (2025 - 2029). But he can't run again after this - period. The 22nd Amendment says no one can be elected president more than twice. And he doesn't have the votes in Congress to amend the Constitution.

Lately, he's been hinting at ways to stick around, like having his VP (JD Vance) run next and then somehow handing power back to Trump. Sounds wild - but it won’t work.

The 12th Amendment blocks that. It says you can't be vice president if you’re not eligible to be president. And after two terms, Trump isn't.

Bottom line: No third term. No VP backdoor. The Constitution shuts it down.
